Factors that influence the promoting or firing of new college hires:

What is the article talking about?

 Some of the main reasons for firing the new college hire is their lack of commitment and

poor work ethic. Poor recruitment strategies of the companies is one of the determinant of

poor behaviour of employees.

 Some of the other reasons for firing by employers were that new college hires were

unable to follow the instructions, unable to meet deadlines, fail to take initiatives, not

able to use technology appropriately and unable to communicate properly.

 The last part of the article explains that the actions the new college hires should take in

order to avoid firing. They should take initiatives, work self-management and learn

technical competency.

Do you think it has reasonable data and conclusion? Justify your answer.

The data collected is appropriate but the analysis is weak. For data analysis only percentages and

means are calculated no statistical test is applied in order to study the determinants of firing of

new college hires (Zikmund, Babin, Carr and Griffin, 2013).

The presentation of the data was good. The data is presented in tables and bar charts. The

weightage of each factor is shown in a bar chart and in table as well.

How does it relate to a student future employment?

From this article the students can learn about the common reasons for firing of new college hires.

Also the students can learn that they should be more ethical, punctual and team oriented in order

have a successful career.


The last part of the article is about the recommendations to the college students. They should

take initiatives at work to be more innovative, share knowledge with others, learn technical

expertise and learn to follow the instructions.
