INTRODUCTION

Technology is rising in the wold and many industries are gaining with the benefits it contains. Due to
having high competition in the construction business many companies are taking a step further by
changing from the traditional approaches and moving towards a more technological approach which
the company are considering beneficial after doing feasibility studies whereby the feasibility studies
will determine whether the costs are worth the benefit. Routine automated processes are put in place
which enable construction companies keep track of its resources more accurately and efficiently. It is
no secret that technology is evolving all across the globe. The reason why many organisation such as
the construction companies are moving towards technological enhancement from traditional views is
majorly because of the benefits it has. Technology has helped the construction in a number of ways
and the major reasons is that, the interested parties such as the managers and stakeholders are well
informed on a real-time basis, which enables them to make strategic plans and budget the actions by
doing controlling and planning with the information acquired. Moreover, technology has other
benefits to which includes; firstly, better communication among the managers and related parties,
whereby managers across the organisation and country are connected to each other through emails
and other social media sites and chats which enables them to be well informed, technology also
enables workers to do teleconferencing and telecommunicating where workers work remotely from
home or other places outside the business making workers flexible, workers are normally connected
through video calls hence working hours is extended flexibly as working from home may put in
additional hours that benefits the company, secondly, technology enables a company to do graphical
representation of the information acquired normally graphically tracking through pie chart outputs of
employees or fuel consumption per months where its rising or falling, the performance of sub units
and see which units is production higher. Moreover, in a production line of a construction company,
normally the first step to the building process is to make a plan of the building hence traditionally the
company or the house owner would have hired an expert architects who would normally draw on
papers of how the outcome will be required now through using technology an easy to use software
known as auto CAD (computer aided design) enables users to develop plans on their own, which is
fast in results and produces all results in three dimensional that depicts information clearer and better
that the contractor follows to make plans and quotation, therefore saving clients time in waiting for
the plan to be completed if done manually and saves money as hiring experts can be considered
expensive. Hence this research will be on the importance of technology in a construction industries
and the benefits technology has in the building process and what types of technologies has the
companies adopted to make construction easier and accurate
B.
In the recent literature, there are many studies talking on the importance information technology has
on construction industries and how the industries are benefiting;
‘‘construction in Taiwan is one of the pillars of the domestic economy. The industry is its wides
sense achieved an output of some Taiwan dollars (TWD) 469 billion (USD 1.3 billion
dollar)’’[ CITATION Hun10 \l 5129 ]. The construction industries have a huge competition rate in the
economy as a lot of construction industries are in Taiwan as it is there major source of income,
therefore construction industries are using advanced technology to support themselves compete with
other similar industries, each industry have its own research and development team that look at
finding better and faster ways to compete and make construction easier, some of the common
technology used by construction industries in Taiwan are; industries creating job specific applications
that makes doing calculations and graphical analysis easy such as development of a wages paying
application that automatically generates pays of employees through data in the punch card machine
making paying wages easier and faster and workers are paid conveniently, secondly the use of virtual
reality, it is use[ CITATION Far12 \l 5129 ]d as an engineering technology that enables doing
interactive analysis in a three dimensional phase through the data generated, the manager of the
business use this method to go to sites that does not require physically going to work sites and also
use it as predictive tools as entering data in it may generate a virtual outcome as to what needs to be
done, and changes can be made before the building are constructed, thirdly CAD software ( computer-
Aided Design and drawing) this is a software used to make the construction plans of the buildings
where this does require an expert architect to draw on paper rather entering data in this software will
automatically generate the plans as required to make the building, thirdly the creation of knowledge
based expert system that is automating many functions, such as creation of roofing tin the system
automatically generates tin according to the size of the buildings and paints the tin without the need of
multiple employees rather a few employees are required to enter data in the system for the generation
process .
‘‘The success of the construction industry can also be expected to encourage investment in technology
within the field of IT.’’[ CITATION Far12 \l 5129 ]. The discussion here is to encourage business to
spend more on technology as the world is evolving towards moving to a more technological
enhancement. Majority of business are using technology but only for communication purposes, if the
business spends more on technology such as spending on virtual reality kits expansion in severs so
there could be decentralized processing and spending on technology for security purposes such as on
camera and bio metric security as it would curb fraud and work towards accuracy hence moving with
technology gains lot of benefits to the business.

‘‘Necessity of construction technologies innovation of civil engineering construction’’[ CITATION

Jam18 \l 5129 ]
This research is also talking on the rising competition and hence the importance of technology in the
competition phase. James Choueiry argues that, most of the civil industries are not aware of the
benefits that technology pose and many industries are struggling in the competition against companies
that are high technological intensive and suggests that technology can be used to help these industries
cope up with competition.

‘‘Chief Justice McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada, in the summer of 2009, noted that fewer
construction cases are being tried due to “complexity, time, preservation of relationships, cost, risk of
outcome and other such factors”.’’[ CITATION Kar12 \l 5129 ].
This research highlights on the importance of data security, Groulx empysis that some industries are
spending lots on technology but not a single dollar on security as this has led to the failure of many
business, normally through hacking emails, remote access of desktops, hacking on camera and seeing
actions. Industrial eavesdropping and industrial espionage where price sensitive being shares to
parties outside the organisation also physically breaking into the company and stealing hardware’s to
see the data stored and work towards improving it for their own benefit.
