Circuit Opening Relay

The circuit opening relay is a attached to the ECM. Removal of the ECM may not be
necessary, but refer to the ECM removal sequence to access the relay. Simply disconnect the
wiring from the relay and unbolt the relay from the ECM.

Testing

1. With the ignition switch OFF , remove the relay from its mount.

2. Using an ohmmeter, test for continuity between terminal STA and E1 . Continuity
should be present.

1. There should be continuity between terminals B+ and FC .


 

2. There should be no continuity between terminals B+ and FP .

3. Apply battery voltage and ground to terminals STA and E1 ; with voltage applied,
continuity should be present at terminals B+ and FP .

Fig. Place the terminal wiring in the correct locations when testing the relay

1. Apply battery voltage and ground to terminals B and FC ; with voltage applied,
continuity should be present at terminals B+ and FP .

2. If any test condition is not met, the relay must be replaced.
