The redevelopment of slums

Introduction

"The slums are not a place of despair. Its inhabitants are all working towards a better life." By Vikas
Swarup.

The architecture is an service to do for society and create their better life pattern. India is one
of the most religiously and ethnically diverse nations in the world, with some of the most deeply
religious societies and cultures. Religion plays a central and definitive role in the life of many of its
people.

The architecture has the influenced on humans life throughout history. There are so many
religions, culture, languages, and diversity and position differences. Growing up in such divers country
bring so many notion of people belief, lifestyle, discrimination. Something which is bothers me a lot is
the people who are suffering from the poverty, lack of education, growing up in unhealthy environment.
I want to do something for them which cannot just improve their lifestyle but change their mind set and
make them to see the society at different perspectives where the castes just define through the name
not from their living pattern. Does architecture has the power to do that. Can architecture change
people mind-set who living in areas like slums? Can a building make them to get out the gender
discrimination from the society? These are the questions which brings me to work on this topic.

Today, the growth of population leads to poor at slums and rich people to their vertical houses.
The rapid growth in population, increasing needs, high demand of land this factors resist poor to afford a
good house with health an environment. This study will help me to understand slum community. The
analysis study of the slum brings issues of current scenario. The conclusion set up parameters of the
design which can be helpful to design for slums housing.
