Answer of assignment 1
Class 8
1) Physical quantity is termed as Force.
2) Object is moving from left to right. In the second case of pull object is moving
to its left. In both the case what we find is a) object is changing its position for
push or pulls b) State of motion is changing.
3) Yes in both the case we are getting the interaction between the point of
application of force and the object.
4) Contact force. Yes always we need to mention the direction of force. Effect of
force: a) change in the position of the object b) change in state of motion (from
rest to motion of a body)
5) a) pull b) push c) pull
6) Initially the speed was equal to zero but later on increasing.
7) Initially the speed was more but later on the speed increases in case a goal
keeper saves the goal.
8) a) Change in the position of the object
b) Change in the speed of the object
c) State of motion is changing that is from rest to motion or vice versa.
d) Also the direction can be changes on the application of forces.
9) SI unit of Force is newton (N) .

10) Now most of us have doubt in understanding the question.

The question suggests that the object is under the action of four forces
with different direction as shown by the arrow marks. So in such case
we have to calculate the total force acting on the block. Now all of us
can see the forces are acting in two planes horizontally and vertically.
So individually we need to calculate the total force differently one along
the horizontal direction and in vertical direction. Now do these
questions by placing say a book before you . Apply the force in the
horizontal direction and see what happens and then apply the force in
vertical direction one after the other and see what happens and
compare my result with my solution.
a) In this question two forces acting vertically are F2 and F4.
Directions are opposite and are equal so the total force =F2+ (-F4).
Since direction is opposite to F2 so F4 was considered negative. So the total force
becomes 4N+ (-4)N=0N (no force is applied along this direction so no change in
the position of the object along this direction that is it will neither move up or
down.
Again two forces acting horizontally are F1 and F3.
Directions are opposite and are equal so the total force =F1+(-F3).
Since direction is opposite to F1 so F3 was considered negative. So the total force
becomes 2N+(-4)N=-2N (negative sign denotes that the object is moving along the
direction of F3 and total force acting on the object is 2 N and the direction is along
the direction of larger force .
b) Net force vertically = 0N. Net force horizontally = 2N.
And the direction is along the direction of larger force that is along F1 so object
moves towards right.
c) Net force vertically = 0N. Net force horizontally = 0N.So the object is under no
action of force and it will be at rest.
d) ) Net force vertically = 0N. Net force horizontally =-3N.
And the direction is along the direction of larger force that is along F4 so object
moves upward.
e) Net force vertically =-2N. Net force horizontally = 3N. Usually this is not under
the scope of our chapter.
12) Net force vertically =F2+(-F4). Net force horizontally = F1+ (-F3) N.
And the direction is along the direction of larger force.
