Time: Before 17:00 HRS

Late submission: Before 17:00 HRS 21/02/2020 (subject to 50% reduction in total)
No submission: Beyond 17:00 HRS 21/02/2020

Note: Use A4 sheets to write the assignments and submit it to the class representative or directly
to me in person. Excel sheet(s) should be emailed to vj@nitk.edu.in The email should contain
the subject “CV707-Assignment: 1, Roll number: ”. Both assignment and excel sheet should
be submitted before the deadline.

1. Draw the full range stress-strain curve for Fe410 steel. Write about engineering stress-strain
curve, true stress-strain curve and true plastic strain.
2. Develop engineering stress-strain curve for Fe410 having the following properties, Young’s
modulus E = 2×105 N/mm2, yield stress fy = 250 N/mm2 and ultimate stress fu = 410 N/mm2.
Determine the true stress and true strain values for the engineering stress-strain curve. Use
spreadsheet to develop and plot the stress-strain curves. Present the table of true stress vs true
plastic strain values. Use the following equations to build the engineering stress-strain curve.

3. Using three plate elements three different geometries are formed and its centreline diagram
is shown in Figure.3.1. Determine the geometrical properties of these sections (cross-sectional
area, centroid, moment of inertia, product of inertia, principal moment of inertia, shear center,
torsion constant and warping constant ). Use the sectorial coordinates system to determine the
shear center coordinates and warping constant. Assume the uniform thickness of the section
t=2mm. Discuss about the geometrical properties with respect to symmetry of the section.
