Team project Reflective Paper Component 3

TOPIC: Sports and Recreation.

Team Explanation

Sports and health is an important topic because sports is a huge contributor to

maintaining a healthy lifestyle and this is crucial to achieving a long and happy life so

we have chosen it. Technologies are developing and more entertainment can be found

on the internet than ever before. This results in an increased amount of people

engaging with technologies rather engaging with sports. This leads to people spending

an insufficient amount of time to exercise so we have chosen to promote the importance

of sports in efforts of trying to convince people to be more active. We also researched

about the perspectives of British and Vietnamese people on this subject. As for primary

research, we created an online survey that consisted of ten questions and as for

secondary research, all of the materials that we used were online. Based on our survey,

we found out that the two most popular sports for our Vietnamese respondents were

badminton and soccer and for British respondents, they were golf and soccer. The most

common reason that barricaded both groups of people from doing sports was the lack of

time. We also found out that on average, Vietnamese spent more time playing sports

than British and boys spent more time playing sports than girls.

Evaluation of outcome

From all the feedback that I received and my perspective, there are some strengths of

the outcomes and some points that need to be improved. On one hand, I think the
outcome is very strong about facts since there has been a lot of research at different

cultural perspectives as well as interviews and surveys which are real people with real

ideas and opinions. Also, we included a video so the outcome is more diverse and

catchy in order to draw people's attention as well as keep them interested during the

presentation. It was very obvious since people become more focused and head to the

presentation. On the other hand, our outcome has some limitations such as the

language used in the presentation were too academic and complicated which resulted

in the confusion of some younger students who have a limit range of vocabulary.

Besides that, the number of facts in the outcome is too many which leads to boredom

during the presentations and listeners became overwhelmed. People tend to be

distracted or watching the presentation without a clear sense of understanding. In the

future, the facts need to be limited and focus on certain points so that the presentation

can be clearer and achieve its aiming rather than providing side information which leads

to the presentation becomes longer and unnecessary.

Evaluation of own work process

In the team, my work is providing ideas for the survey which is the primary research as

well as collecting information and analyzing the data. Besides that, I also suggested

ideas for the video and be a part of it. In my opinion, I did well on the provided task

since I gave a clear result which is one of my strengths and suggested useful ideas for

the outcome. However, there are some limitations that I think I need to improve. Even

though finishing the task on time, I think I should complete my work faster so that I can

support other teammates since my work was not so complicated compared to them.
Also, by doing that, it could take a lot of pressure from the team due to the huge amount

of work and a limit amount of time.

Evaluation of teamwork

In my opinion, I really like working with the whole team even though we still have some

limitations such as procrastination and distraction. Working in a team gives me a feeling

of being supported since the amount of work is divided and people discuss and share

information during the working time. Besides that, we can help each other out and

solving problems more effectively compared to individuals because there is always

more than one idea given for an issue. For example, we came up with many ideas

during the filming parts where we tried to make it as efficient as possible by dividing up

scenes and grouping ideas. We also to talk to each other about each issue that we

encountered so that we could overcome it in the fattest way like the way we discuss

with each other about deadlines and productivity. However, people in the team have the

same working style. We are easily distracted from the tasks and sometimes

procrastinated such as talking during the work or joking around during the filming

process. It makes the process go slower than expected and double the pressure due to

the upcoming deadlines. A solution to the problem is having a hardworking and

motivated member to encourage and remind the rest of their work.

Evaluation of own performance as a team member.

About my research, I focused mainly on the primary research which is the survey since

I’m not good at finding and searching for information on the internet as well as filtering

information. My tasks were to release the information and collect the result then
transform them into statistics such as percentages. I collected the result from two

different areas which are in Vietnam and the UK and turn them into evidence to support

ideas in the presentation. However, the result may not be totally accurate since it could

only reach a limited amount of people but not everyone. Therefore, there will be some

false information.

Learning about different cultural perspectives.

For the research, we took information from both the survey and sources from the

internet. The survey focuses on two specific regions which were Vietnam and England.

We came up with different questions such as their sports routines and their favorite

ones in order to find more about the difference between the two cultures. We also look

at some articles from the organization and statistics of the government to see how the

government and people support the idea of playing sport. According to my survey, both

regions are very active in the sport. For example, both countries play different sports

such as the British tend to play soccer meanwhile Vietnamese play more badminton,

they both have a similar sport routine. However, a feature I have noticed and learned

from the secondary research is that British government pay more attention to citizens’

sports life compared to Vietnamese government since they have invested 244 million

pounds into national governing bodies (Sport England, 2018)

Learning from the whole project

For me, the most important issues of the whole process were planning and preparation.

At the beginning of the process, I didn’t rely on how important it is to have a detailed

plan and good preparation before each of the tasks and the presentation. Alternatively,
this is probably because of my first time doing the projects as well as being subjective.

This resulted in the pressure of the team increased since I had to rush for all the

incoming deadlines and affect others’ work. Also, because of not well prepared, I had

pausing issues during the presentation which could affect the understanding as well as

the quality of the presentation. Having experienced those mistakes, I now know the

importance of planning and preparing for a project. This means that I will make a plan

more any of the tasks and have a clear sense of what to speak before each of the

presentations. Moreover, I have learned many new advantages of playing sports in the

community like “improve mental health” or “contribute to a higher level of self-esteem

and self-worth” (Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries; 2019)

which I never heard of before.
