Joyce. The psycho-analytical novel. as the really name implies. ballads
emphasis on psycho-analysis. The novelist becomes a psychoanalyst and
he brings into focal point. the subtle and intricate psychological cross
currents. The analysis of the psychological science of the characters is

goes deeper and deeper into the inmost cranny of the psychological
science of his characters and he brings out or project the elusive
psychological model of the characters.

Lawrence’s bold originality is exemplified by his manner. which is

impressionistic. His manner is more poetic than the matter-of-fact
manner of others. He has used workss of vivid images and symbols for
giving looks to the complex idea procedure of mind of his characters.
Long before the flower of ‘the watercourse of consciousness novels’ .
Lawrence foreshadowed the manner of consciousness novels’ .

Lawrence has intentionally flouted the regulation refering the integrity

of clip. The traditional nineteenth century novelists maintained a
chronological order of the sequence of events. A coherent secret plan is
to be discerned in the nineteenth century fiction. But in Sons and Lovers
the narrative moves frontward and rearward. The logical consistence
with respect to the defect of narrative in a chronological order is non at
that place in Sons and Lovers. There is an component of lyricality or
poesy in the novel and this constitutes one of the salient characteristics
of Lawrence’s art. Then once more there is no hero in the conventional
sense of the term. It was ‘the shimmering protoplasm’ which Lawrence
sought to supply us’ . J. Maynahan has observed ; “He looked more
closely than any other modern author in English at the baffling fibres of
human feeling and inherent aptitude which tie the ordinary work forces
to one another. out of which the unusual texture of human experience is
woven. for life or for death” .
