What happens with the volunteering program at Peruvian

Universities?
Persuasive essay
I think imposing compulsory volunteering at Peruvian Universities to
obtain a bachelor's degree is a bad idea.

First of all, I would like to say that many times I did non-formal
volunteering, on different occasions during these last years. Do volunteering for me
is an experience that allows you to understand people more humanely. It also helps
you to know what you want to achieve in life and to value the little things that life
offers.

But when I found out that to get a professional academic degree, I had to
volunteer. It did not seem appropriate, because the activities that I was asked to do
were not related to volunteer activities. It seemed more like doing professional
practices, because I had to meet a schedule and make a report which in the end, I
had to present it to a supervisor. Which was beyond my plans due to the short time
I had in those days.

Then, because it was a requirement that I had to fulfill, I volunteered.

Which consisted of validation of the attendance of guests at the conferences held by
the university. For me that was work, I did not feel that I was helping someone
else, or that I was adding value in their lives. Finally, the volunteering ended, but I
must say that I only did it to fulfill the requirement.

On many occasions I spoke with my university colleagues and they told me

that they felt the same way, much disappointment. The feasible thing would have
been that they allow us to develop by ourselves a type of volunteering that in our
opinion and experience adds value to the people, in whom our volunteer plan will
be oriented. But as far as I know it is not possible, since the universities have
established activities that are considered volunteering.

At the end of all this, I feel a little frustrated since in the universities the
purpose of a volunteer is not being fulfilled, which is to allow to improve in some
way the lives of the people who need it. I strongly believe that anyone who has not
volunteered before will take this not as an experience that allows them to learn
more about themselves. But only one more requirement which an educational
institution imposes.
