What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS’s package tracking system?
Inputs:
• Include package information, customer signature, pickup, delivery, time-based data, current
location (while on route), and customer documentation
Process:
• Data transmitted to central computer and stored for retrieval. Data also reorganized so that
can be tracked by customer account, data, driver, and other criteria.
Output:
• Include pickup and delivery times, location while on route, and package recipient, but specific
as well as summary reports for management.

Organizational:
• The organizational dimension is procedures for tracking packages and managing inventory
and provide other information about the package for UPS service center.
Management:
• Management dimensions can help to service levels and costs of UPS. The management uses
automation to increase the ease of sending a package via UPS and of checking its delivery
status. Through this, UPS will increase its sales revenues as well as to reduce its delivery cost.
Technology:
• Technology dimensions are talking about computers, network or software of the UPS. These
can help to assess to worldwide, then provide more service to the world and make service
better and more accurate.

How are these technologies related to UPS’s business strategy?
• Firstly is delivery information acquisition device(DIAD), it can automatically capture customers
signatures along with pickup and delivery information. The information can be accessed
worldwide to provide proof of delivery to customers or to respond to customer queries. Next is
UPS network. It is a global electronic data communication network that provides an information
processing pipeline for international package processing and delivery. Technology new Web-
based Post-Sales order management system. Manage global service orders and inventory for
critical parts fulfillment.

What business objectives do UPS’s information systems address?


• The strategic business objective that UPS information system address were provided best
customer services to the customers. Every year UPS spend more than $1 billion to maintain
high level of customer services.
UPS also focus on improve the efficiency of the performance. UPS invest and use a lot of
systems or software to increase the company performance. For example, Packing Tracking
System, UPS using this system to monitor and re-route package throughout the delivery
process. The UPS can always improve operational efficiency.
The others strategic business objective is lower cost. UPS was keeping costs low to compete
with competitors like FedEy. By using information system in UPS, it can reduce cost of
operation.

What would happen if these systems were not available?


• Firstly, UPS company will not very efficiency. In addition, customer cannot ask their require by
the internet. The technology were not available, then UPS would, as it has through most of its
history, attempt to provide that information to its customers, but at higher prices. From the
customers’ perspective, these technologies provide value because they help customers
complete their tasks more efficiently. Customers view UPS’s technology as value-added services
as opposed to increasing the cost of sending packages. People cannot know where the package
has arrived. The cost will be increased. The whole process will not so convenient
