- What are the inputs, processing, and outputs of UPS's package tracking system?

First, the process is done through inputs, as each package contains an encrypted, scannable
sticker. These stickers contain all the information about the package, for example, details about
the sender, the receiving location, the current location, and the appointment. Then comes the
special processing unit where all information is transferred to the central computer. Through this
process, the ORION program is provided, which shows the safest roads for drivers, as well as
the DIAD program, which is a portable device that every driver has and through which he
obtains all the daily information that the driver needs. Finally, it is UPS's customer service, which
allows the customer to track his package through the website, inform him of the shipping price
and route for the package, and specify the time of transportation and receipt.

- What technologies are used by UPS? How are these technologies related to UPS's
business strategy?

Firstly, there are stickers on each package. Through these stickers, detailed information about
the package can be obtained. Secondly, ORION, a program that prepares the best roads for
drivers. Thirdly, DIAD, which is a computer that every driver carries to obtain package and
delivery information. Fourth, OMS, which is a special department within the organization that
gives full management of the most sensitive and highly technical things. Fifth, the official
website of UPS. As listed above, the information is an interconnected network of information
that provides the best services to customers with the best possible strategies through which
they obtain as much customer satisfaction as possible.

- What strategic business objectives do UPS's information systems address?

UPS is a well-established company in the field of parcels, as they provide the best services to
customers at the lowest costs incurred by the customer, with high quality, and also protect the
package from causing any damage to it. The company tracks packages across the road and
invests more than a billion dollars annually in order to improve the customer’s experience and
obtain the best results and evaluations that they receive and the good reputation in the world,
whether from customers or other international companies that they deal with.

- What would happen if UPS/s information systems were not available?

For all companies that fail to develop future plans to gain leadership in their work, the company
is exposed to bankruptcy and major financial failure due to the lack of significant investment in
technology and following in the footsteps of technologically superior companies. What is safer is
that if the company intends to continue working, but with a severe technological deficiency, it will
take a long time to reach a level similar to other companies, and it will be very expensive, which
means the company will fail to obtain the satisfaction of customers and other partners.
