1. SYMPOSIUM (n) – [िवचार गो ी] a conference or meeting to discuss a particular subject

● Examples –

4. TEMPERATE (adj) – (in terms of climate = a moderate climate i.e. neither too hot nor too cold) & (in terms

5. IDIOSYNCRASY (n) – [ गत िविश ता] a distinctive or particular behaviour that makes a person different
from others

● Antonyms – Normalcy
● Examples –
1. The home’s colourful idiosyncrasy made it stand out in the neighbourhood of white houses.

6. SULLY (v) – [मैला या अशु कर दे ना] to damage the purity of something/someone


● Synonyms – Taint, Tarnish, Stain, Besmirch, Defile, Pollute
● Antonyms – Purify, Cleanse
● Examples –
1. If a chemical plant is built near the resort, it will probably sully the clean air near the area.
2. The comedian’s belittling comments on racism were certain to sully his budding career.

7. SANGUINE (adj) – [आशावादी] stay positive specially in bad or di cult situation


● Synonyms – Optimistic, Upbeat, Buoyant, Hopeful
● Antonyms – Pessimistic, Gloomy, Depressed
● Examples –
1. It amazes me how having cancer does not prevent her from being sanguine. Such an epitome of
positivity she is.

8. PROPENSITY (n) – [ झान या झुकाव] an intense natural inclination or preference


● Synonyms – Leaning, Proclivity, Fondness, Penchant, A nity Predilection
● Antonyms – Disinclination, Aversion
● Examples –
1. My propensity for eating unhealthy junk food is slowly leading me to obesity.

9. INELUCTABLE (adj) – [अिनवाय] unable to be resisted or avoided / impossible to alter


● Synonyms – Inescapable, Unavoidable, Inevitable, Necessary, Certain, Destined
● Antonyms – Avoidable, Evadable
● Examples – 1. The blows of fate are ineluctable, No man shall evade his doom.
2. Perhaps there is no hope for the actor because even after spending a year in rehab, his drug
addiction seems ineluctable.

10. FLABBERGAST (v) – [है रत म डालना] to surprise someone greatly


● Synonyms – Astonish, Astound, Amaze, To-take-someone’s-breath-away (idiom)
● Antonyms – Unimpressed, Unconcerned
● Examples –
1. The burglar was flabbergasted when he broke into the house and found himself surrounded by the police.
2. Because the actress was not expecting to win an award, she was flabbergasted when her name was called.

It  was  unanimously  decided  at  the  symposium  that  the  team  captain  was  too  incompetent  for  holding  that 
post.  As  a  result,  he  was  sent  home  the  very  next  day.  Any  of  us  would  have  panicked  if  we  had  been  in  that 
situation but being temperate in hard times had always been his idiosyncrasy.  
A  lot  of  people  tried  to  sully  his  image,  yet  he  managed  to  maintain  a  sanguine  attitude  towards  his  future. 
His  propensity  towards cricket had never diminished. After the ineluctable practice of 12 months, he again got 
his  place  back  in  the  team.  And  when  he  played  for  the  first  time  after  these  months,  he  performed  his  best 
leaving the whole stadium flabbergasted.
