It gives me immense pleasure to inform that the Moot Court Society of IMS Law College, is organising its
First NationalOnline Moot Court Competition, 2020 to be held from June 20th – 24th, 2020. I cordially
invite your esteemed institution to participate in the competition and extend to us the privilege of hosting the partici
pating teams.
We will endeavour to create an atmosphere of invigorating intellectual challenge and the opportunity to learn
Court Craft hrough simulated experiences in the competition. We look forward to a positive response from you.

IMS Noida is a premier Institute known for its academic excellence and value-based education. IMS is
alive with different activities, ambitions and views. I hope that this Moot Court will be very fruitful for
the students. I wish all the best to them.
RULES AND REGULATIONS

DEFINITIONS
1.The following terms shall have the corresponding meanings unless otherwise
specified:
1.1 'Competition' shall refer to IMS 1st Online National Moot Court Competition,
2020
1.2 'Competition problem' shall refer to the facts and issues released by the
organisers of the competition with its clarifications and corrections.
1.3 'Competition rules' shall refer to the official rules of the competition as amended
from time to time.
1.4 'Knock out round' shall refer to Semi-finals and Final rounds of the competition.
1.5 'Memorial' shall refer to the memorandum of written submissions submitted by
any participating team as per the Competition Rules.
1.6 'Organizing Committee' (hereinafter to be referred as O.C.) shall refer to the
committee appointed for the administration and conduct of the competition including
any other authorized persons, and all events leading up to the competition.
1.7 'Official Email' shall refer to the official email id of the moot court society i.e.,
omc.imsnoida@gmail.com
1.8 'Selection Committee' shall consist of Dean, Head of Department and Faculty
Convenor.
1.9 'Advanced rounds' shall include the quarter-final, semifinal and final rounds.

2.GENERAL RULES

2.1 ELIGIBILITY -

2.1.1 All students who are pursuing Integrated 5-year LL.B. or 3-year LL.B. programs from
recognized Law Schools, Universities and Institutions in India or abroad shall be eligible to
participate.
2.1.2 Each participating team shall comprise of two (2) members. A maximum number of 2
teams can participate from a college/Institution.
2.1.3 No team shall contradict the composition mentioned above. No faculty member, coach,
or a designated observer will be allowed to join the video-conferencing or chat room during
the session.
2.1.4 The language of the competition will be English.

2.2 REGISTRATION -

2.2.1 Last date of registration shall be 30th May 2020.


2.2.2 The pre-recorded videos of the arguments must be submitted by 20th June 2020.
2.2.3 The registration fee for the team is INR 1500.
2.2.4 Fee once paid is non-refundable.

2.2.5 PROCEDURE TO REGISTER:

i. To register click on “link" provided at the last page of the brochure.


ii. Take a screenshot of your payment and upload the same at the required place in Google
form.
iii. The Registration shall be deemed complete only when the Registration Fee has been
remitted successfully, the Application form is duly filled and the screenshot of payment is
submitted
iv. Once the application form is filled,
the O.C shall send a confirmation mail allotting a teamcode to all teams
[within 24 hours of registration].
v. The link for joining the competition shall be sent before the day of the competition
vi. The teams shall quote Team Code in all further communications with the O.C

NOTE : Any change in rules and regulations subject to the discretion of organisers,
However any such change will be intimated to participants within stipulated time.

2.3 Memorial-

2.3.1 Each Team in the competition must prepare a memorial on behalf of the Applicant and
behalf of the Respondent.i.e. from both the sides.

2.3.2 Each team must send its Memorial via email to the O.C. by 15th June 2020, by 11.59 p.m.
Please note that NO HARD COPIES ARE TO BE SUBMITTED.
2.3.3 The memorial must contain the following parts only:
i. Cover Page;( Blue for the Applicant and Red for Respondent)
ii. Table of Contents;
iii. Index of Authorities;
iv. Statement of Jurisdiction;
v. Statement of Facts;
vi. Issue raised;
vii. Summary of Arguments;
viii. Pleadings (including conclusion/prayer for relief)
NOTE: The table of contents must be hyperlinked for the ready reference of the judges.
2.3.4 Formatting Specifications
i. For Main Text:
a) Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font size: 12
c) Line spacing: 1.5
d) Body of text: Justified
ii. For Heading :
a) Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font Size: 14
iii. For Cover Page:
a)Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font Size:16

2.3.5 Team Code:

The Team Code must be ascribed on the top right corner of the cover page.
The written submission shall no where mention any particulars of the team
except the team code.There must be no mention of Name,Contact number,Email-id,
University name,etc.

2.3.6 Length:

The total length of the pleadings, including the section headings, conclusion,
prayer and any associated footnotes, must be no longer than 20 pages.
COMPENDIUM has to be submitted to the organizing committee through email at the time of
memorial submission. The Compendium should only be one PDF file, for easy accessibility of the
judges.

3. STRUCTURE OF COMPETITION

The Competition shall consist of four rounds:


3.1 The Preliminary Round;
3.2 The Quarter-Final Round;
3.3 Semi-Final Round; and
3.4 The Final Round

3.1 THE PRELIMINARY ROUND

Preliminary rounds, participants will have to send their pre-recorded video to the official
email ID. Each speaker shall be allowed a maximum of 7 minutes to present their pleadings
from each side. Teams shall send their files named “TC-X Speaker-1” and “TC-X
Speaker-2” (TC-X is the team code). The teams shall send the recorded pleadings on behalf
of both the Applicant and the Respondent. The last date of submission of the pre-recorded
video is 20th June 2020.
Note: Video should be recorded at once, no editing (cut-mix of two slides) should be done.
It should be recorded in proper formal uniform. The results of the preliminary rounds will
be intimated through e-mail on,21st June 2020.

3.2-QUARTER FINAL- VIRTUAL MOOT

Based on the combined score of the memorial as well as pre-recorded videos top eight teams
will qualify for the quarter-final. Quarter-final round would be conducted on 23rd June
2020 (forenoon) via an online platform which will be intimated to the participants. Quarter-
final round of competition will consist of 40 minutes for oral pleadings. Applicant and
Respondent are each allotted 20 minutes. Each mooter shall speak for a minimum of 5
minutes. This round will be knock-out round and four teams will qualify for semi-final
round.

3.3-SEMI FINAL-VIRTUAL MOOT

Semi-final round would be conducted on 23rd June 2020(afternoon) via an online platform
which will be intimated to the participants. The semi-final round of competition will consist
of 60 minutes for oral pleadings. Applicant and Respondent are each allotted 30 minutes.
Each mooter shall speak for a minimum of 10 minutes.

3.4-FINAL ROUND-VIRTUAL MOOT

The final round would be conducted on 24th June 2020 via an online platform which will be
intimated to the participants.
The final round of competition shall consist of 60 minutes of oral pleadings.
Applicant and Respondent are each allotted 30 minutes. Each mooter shall speak for a
minimum of 10 minutes.

4.EVALUATION CRITERIA

4.1 Memorial from each side shall carry a total of 100 marks in terms of the break up as provided below.
4.2 The scoring factor shall include but not be limited to knowledge of facts and law, analysis of the legal
proposition, extent and use of research, clarity and organization, originality, grammar and style.
4.3 In the preliminary round consolidated score shall be calculated out of a total of 600 marks. The breakup of
marks will be 100 marks for the memorial of each side (Applicant and Respondent) and 200 marks for the pre-
recorded video of each speaker (100 marks as Applicant and 100 marks as Respondent). Pre-recorded videos
shall be scored as per the oral round criteria for the speaker as mentioned below. In case of a tie, highest
memorial marks will be taken into consideration for selection to the next round.

4.4 Memorial:

Following would be criteria for judging the memorandam:


1.Knowledge of law and fact 20
2.Interpretation of law and its application 20
3.Research capabilities 20
4.Concept clarity 20
5.Correct usage of language, grammar, style and citation of sources 20

4.5 Advanced Oral Round:

4.5.1. After clearing the preliminary round, top eight teams shall be selected for the quarter-final round.
4.5.2 Memorial from each side shall carry a total of 100 marks in terms of the break up as provided below.
4.5.3 The scoring factor shall include but not be limited to knowledge of facts and law, analysis of the legal
proposition, extent and use of research, clarity and organization, originality, grammar and style.
4.5.4 In the advanced rounds, consolidated score shall be calculated out of a total of 200 marks (100 marks for
each speaker).
4.5.5 In case of a tie, team with higher memorial score shall be adjudged winner of the round.
4.5.6 In case the tie persists, the team with the highest individual score of speaker in the round shall be
adjudged winner of the round.

4.6 Speaker :

The criterion for the scoring of speakers is as follows:


1.Knowledge/Interpretation of law 20
2.Application of law to the facts of the case. 20
3.Ability to answer questions 20
4.Style, poise, courtesy, body language 20
5.Time management/teamwork coordination 20

5.MISCELLANEOUS

5.1 The O.C. reserves the right to amend, modify, change or repeal any of the competition rules at any stage.
The O.C. shall communicate any changes made in the competition rules to the participating teams.
5.2 If a team believes that violation of the rules of the competition has taken place at any stage of the
competition, the team (s) within half an hour after the completion of the round in which violation has allegedly
occurred should register a complaint with the Grievance Cell which shall be constituted specifically for such
purpose. Teams under no circumstances shall approach the Judges with any complaints.
5.3 The Faculty Convenor's decision shall be final in all matters concerning the competition.
5.4 The organizers shall not be responsible for any loss or slow internet connection during the competition. All
the participants are requested to arrange a sound internet connection at their end.
