Internal Moot Court Competition, 2022


MOOT COURT COMMITTEE RULES

1. Internal moot court competition for BBA/ B Com LLB students will be
conducted in online mode on 8th April, 2023. Students who have
participated or ranked in previous year’s internal/ external moot court
competitions shall not participate in the internal moot, 2023.
2. Only those students who are ranked in the competition will be eligible to
participate in external moot court competitions representing School of
Legal Studies, CUSAT.
3. RANK LIST: The rank list for speakers will be prepared based on individual
performance of participants. The cut off mark to be secured for ranking
will be 80 out of 200. Speakers and Researchers will be ranked
separately. Memorial evaluation will be done separately. Memorial
marks will be counted for ranking the best team.

4. REGISTRATION: The teams can register themselves by submitting the


google form https://forms.gle/BZBj7eB47xzGxbYo9 on or before 15th of
March 2023, 9 pm. Each team shall comprise of a minimum of two
members and not more than three members. (Two speakers and one
researcher).

5. TEAM CODE: Team code will be allotted by MCC after registration, via
email. This team code must be specified in the Cover Page of the
memorials. The names of the participants shall not be mentioned
anywhere in the Memorial.

6. MEMORIALS: Each team must prepare memorials for both sides, the
petitioner and the respondent. Soft copy of the memorials should be
emailed with the subject as “Team Code- Memorial Submission” to
slsstudentsmcc@gmail.com on or before 2nd April, 2023, 10:00 pm. The
memorials shall be submitted in PDF format. PDF shall be named as
“Team Code- Memorial for Petitioner” and “Team Code- Memorial for
Respondent” respectively. The memorials for the two sides shall be
attached as two separate attachments in the same email communication.
Memorial marks will be added for ranking the team and the researcher.

7. All memorials submitted must conform to the following requirements-

a. The page size should be A-4. The font of the body of the Memorial
must be Times New Roman, size 12, with 1.5 line spacing and the
font-size of footnotes must be size 10. (OSCOLA 4 th edition) must
be followed for the footnotes.
b. Each page must have a margin of at least an inch on all sides.
c. The Memorial should have a minimum of 20 pages and shall not
exceed 30 typed pages.

● The memorial shall consist of the following parts:

Cover Page [Coloured BLUE for Applicant and RED for Respondent]
Table of Contents
Index of Authorities
Statement of Jurisdiction
Statement of Facts
Statement of Issues
Summary of Arguments
Arguments Advanced
Prayer

The Cover Page must contain:


Team Code
Name of the Case
Party for which the Written Submission has been prepared
Name of the forum resolving the dispute

Evaluation criteria for memorial is as follows:

8. COMPENDIUM: Teams who wish to present a compendium shall email
the same with the subject “Team Code- Compendium Submission” to
slsstudentsmcc@gmail.com at least two days prior to the oral rounds.
The compendium shall be submitted in PDF format. PDF shall be named
as “Team Code- Compendium”. However, compendium is not
compulsory. Compendiums should not contain any mark or identification
elements of which may disclose the identity of the team members. The
teams should restrict the compendium to the cases which they want to
present and need not include all the cases which find a place in the
memorials. The font, size and spacing shall be the same as that of memo.

9. ORAL ROUNDS: There will be two rounds to ensure that each team is
given opportunity to argue for both sides. The fixtures for the oral rounds
shall be determined by draw of lots.

There will be two rounds of arguments per team, once for applicant &
another for respondent. No team will face each other more than once in
the preliminary rounds. Each team will face a different bench in their
second round of arguments.

Each team would be given 30 minutes to present their oral arguments, subject
to a maximum of 20 minutes per Speaker. Reasonable extension of time for
oral argument may be given at their discretion of judges.

Scouting in any other courtroom is strictly prohibited.

10. RESEARCHERS TEST-A written test will be conducted for researchers. The
participant has to score a minimum mark (not less than 10% marks) to be
ranked in the list. Marks for written test and memorials will be added for
ranking the researchers.

The Organizers will resolve any grievances /contingencies that may arise and
their decision shall be final. MCC reserves the right to change the date of
competition in case of emergencies.
