RCL MCC INTRA MOOT COURT COMPETITION RULES, 2023-24

PRELIMINARY:

The Moot Court Committee of Ramaiah College of Law is organizing the INTRA MOOT COURT
COMPETITION (hereinafter referred to as “the competition”) for National Moots, Trial
Advocacy Moots and International Moots for the academic year 2023 – 24. The purpose of this
competition is to facilitate the selection of teams who shall represent Ramaiah College of Law in such
moot competitions as notified by the RCL Moot Court Committee. Participants are requested to follow
the rules strictly, and in case of any ambiguity (with regard to the Moot Proposition or the Rules) are
requested to seek clarifications by mailing the same to mootcourt@msrcl.org before 11th June
2023, 11:59 PM. Please note that the last date of registration for the competition is 8th June
2023, 11:59 PM.

I. GENERAL RULES

1. ELIGIBILITY:

The Competition is open to all Undergraduate students of Ramaiah College of Law.

2. MODE OF CONDUCT:

The Competition shall be conducted in offline mode.

3. TEAM COMPOSITION:

3.1 The team shall consist of three members of which two members shall be speakers and one member
shall be a researcher.

3.2 The judges shall mark each speaker individually and the final ranking of the team shall be based
on the aggregate of scores obtained in oral rounds, researcher’s test and the memorial score.
4. REGISTRATION:

4.1 The students who are interested to participate in the competition shall form a team of three
members including two speakers and one researcher and register for the competition.
4.2 The team shall register for the competition by submitting their details in this form;

4.3 Once the registration is successfully completed, the participants shall be allotted a team code
through which the team shall be identified throughout the competition.
4.4 Once the registration closes, no further requests for registration shall be entertained.

5. LANGUAGE:

The official language of the competition shall be English.

6. DRESS CODE:

The participants shall appear for the Competition in formal dress only. Both male and female
participants are required to wear black trousers, white shirts, black blazers and formal footwear.

II. RESEARCHER’S TEST

1. Researcher test shall be for 50 marks and may include both objective and descriptive questions as
deemed fit by the organizers.
2. Time duration of the test shall be 40 minutes.

3. Participation in the researcher’s test is mandatory by the researcher of the team.

III. MEMORIALS

1. Each participating team must prepare memorials for both the sides (Petitioners and
Respondents).
2. Once memorials have been submitted, no revision, supplements or additions shall be allowed.
3. Last date for the submission of memorials is the 20th June 2023, 11:59 PM.

4. Memorials must be uploaded in a pdf format in this google form;

once the team-codes are released.

5.Each team shall submit only one set of memorials (Petitioner and Respondent).
6. The participating teams, while submitting their memorials, must name their respective memorials
as P for Petitioner and R for Respondent accompanied by the team code at the top
right-corner of the cover page.
For example, if the team-code for a particular team is 1, the pdf file for the Respondent should be
named as 'R1' and the pdf file for the Petitioner should be named as 'P1'.
7. The memorials shall nowhere mention particulars such as name, email address, etc. which enables
the identification of the participants, failure of which shall lead to the disqualification of the team.
8. The written submission (“arguments advanced”) shall not exceed 15 pages per side.
(Petitioner or Respondent).

9. Format of Memorials:

a. Cover Page: The cover page of the Memorial must mandatorily state the following-

● Team-code on the upper right side corner


● Name of the Court
● The cause title
● The party for which the Memorial has been prepared (either Petitioner or Respondent)

d. Statement of Jurisdiction

e. Statement of Facts

f. Issues Raised

i. Prayer

10. General Format:

a. Spacing: 1.5 Line Spacing for the main body and 1.0 line spacing for footnotes
b. Margins: 1 inch on all sides of each page

c. Font:

● Body of the memo: Times New Roman, size 12

● Footnote: Times New Roman, size 10

d. Page numbering should be at the bottom middle of each page

e. Citation Method: Bluebook Method of Citation (20th edition)

IV. ORAL ROUND

1. All participants must carry their College ID card throughout the competition for any probable
verification during the oral rounds and researcher’s test.
2. Participants are required to assemble outside their allotted court halls 15 minutes prior to the oral
round.
3. Teams will be divided into pairs to contest in the oral rounds in the draw of lots. The draw of lots
shall be held 1-2 days prior to the oral rounds.
4. Each team shall be arguing only once in the oral pleading round i.e. either for the Petitioner side or
for the Respondent side. However, the memorials must be submitted for both sides (i.e, Petitioner
and Respondent).
5. There will be no exchange of memorials of the opponent.

6. Time Duration:

a. Each team shall get a maximum of 20 minutes to put forth their arguments. The speakers may
distribute the time-limit amongst themselves.
b. However, each speaker must speak for a minimum of 07 minutes.
c. The maximum time allotted for rebuttal shall be 02 minutes.

7. Evaluation of the Oral Rounds:

The oral pleadings shall be marked on a scale of 100 by each judge and an average of the awarded
scores shall be calculated and finalized as the total score of the oral pleadings. The oral rounds
will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

V. FINALITY OF DECISION

The decision taken by the judges and the organizers shall be final and binding.
