I. CONSTITUTION OF AN ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

1. An organizing committee independent of the participants of the Internal International


Scheduled Moot Ranking Rounds (IISMRR) will be constituted and entrusted with the
sole responsibility of hosting, regulating and releasing the ranks for the participants
for the Internal International Scheduled Moot Ranking Rounds 2021-2022.
a. The Organizing Committee will be established by way of selection requested by
the Head of the Organizing Committee from the Student body of School of Law,
CHRIST (Deemed to be University), who will be chosen by the faculty coordinators
of the Moot Court Society.
b. The Organizing Committee is headed by 1 member of the student body and a group
of representatives chosen by the faculty Co-coordinators in consultation with
General Conveners based on their Mooting and organizational experiences.

c. The Organizing Committee is an independent body and shall work in isolation from
the functioning of the Moot Court Society.

II. CONDUCT OF THE INTERNAL INTERNATIONAL SCHEDULED MOOT


RANKING ROUNDS

2. The Internal International Ranking Rounds will be conducted by the Organizing


Committee in the pursuance and in accordance with the following provisions:
a. The Internal International Scheduled Moot Ranking Round will be conducted for
only those moots mentioned in Annexure 1.

b. The Internal International Scheduled Moot Ranking Round will be conducted in a


two-round process.

c. The first round will consist of preparation and submission of the memorial and the
second round will consist of the presentation of oral arguments.

d. Each team shall have speaker rounds only once as the applicant or as the
respondent on a single moot problem. The side shall be decided by ‘allocation of
sides’ process which will be conducted virtually, on the 15th of September in the
presence of all teams.

e. Allocation of sides will be decided on the ODD and EVEN registrations.


f. Allocation of sides shall be on 15th September, 2021.

g. Submission for memorial shall be for the side allotted only.


h. There will be a ‘draw of lots’ conducted by the Organizing Committee to decide
match-ups. The conclusion of such drawing of lots will be final, and no requests for
alteration will be entertained. There will be a ‘draw of lots’ conducted by the
Organizing Committee virtually to determine the fixtures.

i. Teams are to be composed of 3-6 members. Each team must necessarily be


composed of two speakers and one researcher, in addition to the (2+1) composition
three optional members may also form a part of the team. No changes in the
composition will be allowed in the future.

j. The memorial submitted will be evaluated out of a score of 100.
k. During the oral rounds, each speaker will be evaluated out of a score of 100.

l. The final team score will determine the rank of the team.

m. The oral rounds, EACH speaker will be evaluated out of a score of 100.

n. The applicant or respondent memorial will be evaluated out of a score of 100.


o. The total final score of the team would be out of 300 points.

p. The team will be assigned rank based on CUMULATIVE SCORING system. In


case of a tie, precedence will be given in the following order to determine the ranks:
Speaker Round Score and Memorial Score. In case of a further tie, the tie-breaker
would be the ‘knowledge in law’ Score.

q. There shall be no researchers test for the purpose of IISMRR 2021-22.

III. RULES FOR MEMORIAL SUBMISSION

a. The memorial must contain, in the following order, a Cover Page, Table of
Contents, Index of Authorities, Statement of Jurisdiction, Summary of Facts,
Issues Raised, Summary of Pleadings, Pleadings and Prayer.

b. The memorial will have no page limit but word limit per sections as given below
needs to be adhered to strictly:

i. The Cover Page, Table of Contents, Statement of Jurisdiction, and Issues


Raised and Prayer shall not exceed one page each.
ii. The Statements of Facts section must not be longer than 1200 words.
iii. The Summary of Pleadings section and conclusion must not be longer than
750 words.
iv. The total length of the Pleadings section and conclusion must not be longer
than 8, 000 words.
c. The Cover Page of the Memorial must have only the following information, which
should be in the following order (this information should be centered, except where
it is stated otherwise):

i. The Team Code allocated by the Organizing Committee in the top right hand
corner of the Memorial cover page;
ii. The forum being approached;
iii. The name of the Case (X v Y); and
iv. The title of the document (i.e., “Memorial for Respondent” or “Memorial for
Petitioner”).
d. Identity of the team and/or the names of the participants should not be
revealed in the memorial in any manner whatsoever. The teams disclosing
their identity through memorial will be automatically disqualified.
e. The memorial formatted in font type Times New Roman, Font Size 12, with 1.5
line spacing and justified alignment.
f. Footnotes must be used to identify the source of statements or propositions made
in the body of the memorial.
g. Endnotes are not permitted. Footnotes may not include substantive pleadings,
examples, or any text other than the citation itself.
h. All footnotes must adhere to the 20th edition of Bluebook citation format. No other
styles of citations will be permitted.
i. The softcopies of memorial shall be submitted in both “.docx” and “.pdf” formats.
The deadline memorial submission is 2nd October, 2021 by 08:00 PM.
j. The memorial submission shall be through a google form. The link for the same
shall be shared through an email to the student body in advance.

IV. RULES FOR ORAL ROUNDS


a. Each Oral Round of the internal selections will be for seventy (70) minutes.
b. Applicants and Respondents are allotted with thirty-five (35) Minutes each.
c. Before the start of a round, the teams will inform the court-clerk of their time-split,
which will include time occupied by both speakers, as well as time reserved for
rebuttal (in case of Applicant) or sur-rebuttal (in case of Respondent).
d. Oral presentations will be made by both the speakers from each Team. No Speaker
will take more than Twenty (20) minutes of the court’s time.

e. Judges will, if required, for further elaboration on facts and arguments advanced,
have the discretion to extend the time limit of either team further than the allotted
thirty-five (35) minutes upon request.

6. RULES REGARDING VIRTUAL ROUNDS

a. High speed internet along with a working webcam and a microphone is necessary to
attempt the rounds.
b. The rounds cannot be attempted through a phone/tablet.
c. Cisco Webex shall be used as the primary platform for the sake of the internal rounds.

V. DISQUALIFICATION CRITERIA
a. Scouting

Scouting is defined as:

• When a team or one or more of its members attend a hearing in which they are
not participants.
• Instances where students or spectators discuss with or pose questions of
substantive issues of law to the participants/court-clerks/judges. A team’s
disqualification is final and irrevocable.
b. Attempting to contact the drafter of the moot proposition.
c. Any other activities deemed fit by the faculty coordinators.
