RULES

1. The 4th Intra Moot Court Competition shall be held from 16th to 18th of August,
2016 in the University Premises.
2. Participation and selection in the Intra Moot Court Competition is a prerequisite for
representation of the University in any National or International Moot Court
Competition.
3. The competition is strictly a team based event.

4. The Moot Proposition has been released on the 25th July, 2016 and the registrations
were to be made latest by 1st August, 2016.
5. The e-mail should be in the following format:

6. Each team shall be allotted with a team code.
7. The Team Composition registered shall not be subject to any change once the time
period allotted to do so has expired. Any team that changes the team composition
beyond the allotted time shall be barred from the competition.
8. Any team that wishes to withdraw from the competition shall intimate the same to the
Society via an email sent to mas.dsnlu@gmail.com within the time allotted for the
same. Any request for withdrawal beyond such allotted time shall not be entertained
and if such teams fails to appear on the day of the competition, it shall be barred from
representing the University in any Moot Court Competition for this Academic Year.
9. Each team shall be allotted a side by the Society. The allotment shall be done by the
Society through draw of lots, in the presence of Faculty and Student body. The
allotment shall be intimated to the participants one day prior to their scheduled oral
arguments via email.

Memorial Submission

10. Each team shall prepare the Memorials from both sides and two hard copies of each

side shall be submitted between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 on 13th August, 2016 to the
Society.

Preparation of Memorials:-

The Memorials shall consist of the following:-


a. Cover Page
b. Table of Contents
c. List of Abbreviations
d. Index of Authorities
e. Statement of Jurisdiction
f. Statement of Facts
g. Issues Raised
h. Summary of Arguments
i. Arguments Advanced
j. Final Submission/Prayer

The Cover page of the memorial should include the Team Code of the participating
team, the side being allotted and the Court before which the teams seeks to present its
case. No team under any circumstances shall provide the names of any of its
members on the memorial or to the Judges in any manner.
The participants have to cite the authorities in the memorials using footnotes
following a uniform style of citation.
The Memorial shall be typed on both sides on A4- sized paper, with the following
mandatory formatting specifications.
a) Font Type: Times New Roman
b) Font Size: 12
c) 1.5 line Spacing
d) Margins: 1 inch on each side.
For Footnotes, the formatting specifications are:
a) Font type: Times New Roman
b) Font Size: 10
c) Single Spacing
The memorials should have a margin measuring one inch on all sides of each page
and page borders are not to be used.
The following colour schemes shall be followed for the Cover Page of the Memorial:
a) Applicant/Petitioner- BLUE

b) Respondent- RED
The memorials should either be stitched or stapled properly. Spiral binding is strictly
prohibited.
The Memorial shall not contain any annexure, photographs, graphs, diagrams or any
other representation of like nature.
11. Penalty – If the person evaluating the memorial is of the opinion that there has been
plagiarism, the memorial would be put before a committee. Depending on the extent
of plagiarism, the punishment imposed by the committee may vary from the
deduction of marks to the suspension of students from all moot court activities for one
year.
12. There shall be no exchange of memorials before the Competition. However, the
Memorials prepared by the teams from both the sides shall be evaluated by the
Judges irrespective of the side allotted in the Preliminary Rounds.

Researchers’ Test

14. A written Researcher’s Test shall be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on 17th August, 2016.
The duration of the test shall be 1 hour.
15. The test shall be mandatory for all the participating teams.
16. The evaluation of the test shall be on 20 marks. Any team which does not appear for
the researchers’ test shall not be allotted any marks in the test.
The marks obtained by each team in the Researchers’ Test shall be added to the
overall marks of the team.

Oral Rounds

17. There shall be two oral rounds in the Competition, Preliminary Rounds, shall be

conducted on 16th and 17th August, 2016 in four Court Halls and the Final Round,
shall be conducted on 18th August, 2016 in one Court Hall.
Note - The classes shall go on uninterrupted as per the time table provided.

18. Each team shall primarily appear in the Preliminary Round, wherein every team
shall argue once from the allotted side only.
19. Each team shall be provided with a total of 20 minutes for oral arguments, which shall
be divided among the speakers such that a maximum of only 12 minutes can be
allotted to one speaker.
The allotted time may be extended subject to the discretion of the Judges, however
no team shall be granted more than 10 minutes of extension.

20. There shall not be any rebuttals.


21. Allocation of Marks: Oral
Arguments: 60 Marks Written
Submission: 20 Marks
Researcher’s Test: 20 Marks
The combined marks obtained by each team out of a maximum of 100 marks shall
determine the ranking of the teams. (marks obtained/ 60 + marks obtained/ 20 +
marks obtained/ 20 = total marks obtained/ 100)

23. Final Rounds: A total of twenty teams, five top scoring teams from each Court Hall,
shall move forward to the Final Rounds, the marks obtained in which shall provide for
the ranks of these 20 teams.
24. Each team shall be provided with a total of 20 minutes for oral arguments, which
shall be divided among the speakers such that a maximum of only 12 minutes can be
allotted to one speaker.
The allotted time may be extended subject to the discretion of the Judges,
however no team shall be granted more than 10 minutes of extension.
25. The teams selected for the Final Rounds shall represent the University in the various
National and International Moot Court Competitions approved by the Society.
26. Dress Code:-
a. Boys:- Black Trouser, White Shirt, Black Blazer and a Black Tie with a Black
Formal Shoe.
b. Girls:-Black Trouser, White Shirt, Black Blazer or Churidar or Salwar-kurta
(White), Black Formal Shoe.

27. Scouting or any such behaviour shall be subject to punishment and disqualification.
28. Certificate of Merit shall be given to the first three rank holders of the competition.
29. The Moot and Advocacy Society reserves the right to amend the Rules of the
Competition as and when required.
30. In case of any dispute in relation to the Competition, the decision of the Moot and
Advocacy Society shall be final.

Last Date for Registration: 1st August, 2016 (by 11:59 p.m.)
Allotment of sides 14th August, 2016.
Date for Submission of Memorial Hard 13th August 2016 (4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.).
