01 English Alphabets and Numbers

There are 26 letters in English Alphabets. See Reference:

 Vowel is a sound that is made by allowing breath to flow out of the mouth, without
closing any part of the mouth or throat.
 Consonant is a sound that is made by blocking air from flowing out of the mouth with
the teeth, tongue, lips or palate ('b' is made by putting your lips together, 'l' is made by
touching your palate with your tongue).

Note: The letter 'y' makes a consonant sound when at the beginning of a word (e.g. 'yacht',
'yellow') but a vowel sound when at the end of a word (e.g. 'sunny', 'baby').

02 Articles A or An
Articles is an adjective that modifies a nouns.

definite article which is “the” refer to specific or
particular noun; indefinite articles which is “a” or “an”
refer to non-specific or non-particular nouns.

 “a” is used if the beginning sound of the next word starts with a consonant sound.
Example:
a bike a zoo
a university a unicycle
Note: Since the word “university” begins with a consonant “y” sound. So, “a” is used.

 “an” is used if the beginning sound of the next word starts with a vowel sound.

Example:

an apple an egg

an octopus an hour
Note: Since the word “hour” is pronounced with silent “h”, the beginning sound will

Plural is a form of word

Plural Noun Rules

 Add “s” to most of the noun.


Example: girl – girls
apple – apples

 Add “es” to noun that ends in x, z, ch, or sh.
