Xavier is nine years old and loves playing soccer. He also likes his coach a lot. His
name is Mr. Sullivan. He is tough and disciplined, but also very friendly.

After the first soccer practice of the season, Mr. Sullivan had an idea. “Today everyone
will share with the team what they like besides playing soccer,” he said. Then Mr. Sullivan
asked Xavier to go first.!

Xavier was nervous and did not want to talk in front of so many strangers. Then he saw
Mr. Sullivan smiling. He patted his shoulder and told him it was OK.!

This gave Xavier a lot of courage. Then he knew he could do it. “Besides soccer, I love
playing chess,” said Xavier.
