Meowth vs.

Squirtle

Compare/Contrast

By: Sarah N.

Introduction:

The characters that I chose to compare and contrast are Meowth and
Squirtle. They are both from the famous Japanese card- trading game and
TV show called “Pokémon”. Pokémons are fictional creatures, which
humans (known as Pokémon Trainers) catch and train to battle each
other. Pokémons fall into two categories: the good and gentle ones, and
the bad and evil ones. Let’s find out on which side Meowth and Squirtle
are, and what are their major differences and similarities.

Meowth Squirtle

Appearance:

Meowth is an animated character inspired by the Japanese good luck

charm known as the “Lucky Cat”. He has cream-colored fur that turns
brown at the tip of its hind paws and tail. Just like the “Lucky Cat” figurine,
he has a crown on his forehead that looks like an oval gold coin. His eyes,
somehow, read trouble and portray an untrustworthy character.
Squirtle, on the other hand, is a cute blue turtle with a brown shell and a
long curled tail. What’s mostly appealing about Squirtle is his big bright
puppy eyes. He looks sweet and huggable, and he definitely comes as a
nice and kind character.
So far, Meowth and Squirtle don’t have anything in common except being
both animated characters.

Personality:

Meowth and Squirtle have few things in common when it comes to

personality, but first let’s start with their differences.
Meowth is adventurous and very competitive. He loves round objects, as
well as shiny, glittering things; he mostly likes to collect coins because they
are both shiny and round. He is a villain and a thief, he would steal from
other collectors when he gets a chance. Meowth is an urban nocturnal
Pokémon, sleeping for most of the daytime and prowling the city streets at
night. However, he has a romantic side to him and a weakness for female
Pokémons.
Squirtle, on the other hand, is a little shy, especially whenever he meets
new Pokémons. He is nice, fun, loving, and very empathetic character.
Squirtle is a good, loyal friend and can be rarely found.
Similarities in Meowth and Squirtle’s personality are few. They are both
aggressive and extremely good fighters. They are both curious and very
loyal to their clan. If I want to summarize their personalities in one word, I
would say Squirtle is a nice Pokémon, and Meowth is a mean one.

Motives/Actions:

Meowth and Squirtle act very differently. Meowth tries to take other
people’s Pokémons, he loves to fight, he sneaks up on Pokémons, and he
spies on them. Meowth has “powers” when he fights, and would evolve to
“Persian” after the twenty-eighth round. Although he is a Normal Pokémon,
his powers are “Pickup” and “Technician”. These are not a lot of abilities,
but they can sometimes hurt other Pokémons on the battle field. Squirtle
has a different background. He likes to encourage his friends that feel
nervous or scared, he likes to try and defeat his enemies, and he is loving
and caring to all his friends, especially the new ones. Like we said with
Meowth, Squirtle also has abilities. His powers are “Rain Dish” (which is his
hidden ability) and “Torrent”. When he feels threatened, he would retreat
into his very strong shell. His Shell gives him the ability to swim in rapid water.
Squirtle is encouraging to all his friends and loves everyone, but Meowth
only loves himself. Meowth tries to take other people’s Pokémons and
Squirtle helps Pokémons. In summary, Meowth uses his abilities in an evil
way, Squirtle uses them in a good way.

Feelings:

Meowth and Squirtle have many different feelings. Squirtle always feels
like he wants to help when his trainer is in trouble. He usually feels the need
to help his friends when they need it. Meowth, however, has very different
feelings. He usually feels like he needs to defend his teammates and
defeat his enemies. When he feels this way, he sometimes tells it to his
friends so that he gets better at fighting. Meowth feels that he wants to
help his friends get better at something, mostly fighting. Their similarities in
feelings are that they both want to help their friends. This is interesting
because they both want get better at something. Meowth and Squirtle
don’t have any differences in this category.

Conclusion:

Meowth and Squirtle are two very different characters in the Pokémon
family. Each has strong and weak personalities and abilities that reflect
good and evil. It makes reading Pokémon books and collecting cards
exciting and fun.
