ACTIVITY 1: Complete the following questions

1. Mary and her brother Roy live in the same household with their younger sister. They take care of
their younger sister as their parents live abroad.
a. State the family type to which Mary belongs
b. State one disadvantage of living in a family type similar to Mary and Roy’s.
c. State two factors other than migration, which could have led to the creation of Mary’s type of
family.
2. Define the following terms:
i. Bigamy
ii. Marriage

b. Showing respect for the rights of your spouse contributes to a successful marriage. State TWO
other factors that may contribute to a successful marriage.

c. Give two reasons why the traditional roles of men in the Caribbean are changing.

d. Suggest to social workers in your country ONE way they may help young married couples to
resolve a named marital problem. State why social workers should accept the way you have
suggested.
