Chapter 1: The Citizen and Government

1. Why is trust in government so low?

Trusts in government is so low because throughout history there’s

been times when the government told us nothing and lied to us.
Sometimes the government would say one thing and then do
something else.

2.Why is political participation important in changing that?

It’s important because participation is what runs our government. We

can change who is our leader or president and it depends on all the
people who go to vote. Also not only voting but we can make petitions
and other forms to contact people of high authority.

3. What has caused the American "identity" to change over time?

Diversity has caused the identity to change in America.

Explain liberty, equality and democracy in terms of the United States.

 Liberty is freedom for people to do practice whatever religion they

want or clothes to where or lifestyle to have. The government only

has a certain control on people and people have certain control on

the government.

 Equality means everyone is equal. It doesn’t matter the religion or

sex or race or anything, everyone in the U.S. is equal. So that

means everyone can vote and make democracy work.

 Democracy really means that ordinary citizens and noncitizens

need to participate in voting and other things to make the

government run well. So everyone should participate in voting and

other government events because democracy works only if people

take action and participate.
