BOX TRANSPORT MECHANISM

Introduction

This type of mechanism used in various sectors specially in manufacturing assembly line and
has advantages over conveyer system. An assembly line is a manufacturing process (most of the
time called a progressive assembly) in which parts (usually interchangeable parts) are added as
the semi-finished assembly moves from work station to work station where the parts are added
in sequence until the final assembly is produced. By mechanically moving the parts to the
assembly work and moving the semi-finished assembly from work station to work station, a
finished product can be assembled faster and with less labor than by having workers carry parts
to a stationary piece for assembly.
Assembly lines are the common method of assembling complex items such as automobiles and
other transportation equipment, household appliances and electronic goods.

Here, this is working on principle of DRAG LINK MECHANISM.

A drag link converts rotary motion from a crank to a second crank or link in a different plane or
axis. The term is commonly used in automotive technology for the link in a four
bar steering linkage that converts rotation of a steering arm to a center link and eventually
to tie rod links which pivot the wheels to be steered. A drag link is used when the steering arm
operates in a plane above the other links. The drag link converts the sweeping arc of the
steering arm to linear motion in the plane of the other steering links.
An alternate steering mechanism is a rack and pinion, a three bar linkage that eliminates the
drag link by directly moving the center link.
The length of a drag link can affect the geometry and thus the steering ratio.

Pictorial Representation:
Principle:-
You can see in the diagram, if the link-2 rotates with a uniform speed, link-4 will rotate with a
non-uniform speed.

When the point C moves through the Arc C'CC" the link-4 moves through 180° whereas Link-2
has moved through an angle 'α'. However, if the link-4 further moves from point C" to C' it
covers 180°, whereas the link-2 moves through an angle 'β'.

Since the angle 'α' is much larger than 'β' it is evident that even when link-4 has moved through
the same angle i.e. 180° in both the cases, the movement of link-2 is not the same in both the
cases. Consequently, we have a mechanism where we can impart dual speeds to the driven-link
by rotating the driver-link at a uniform speed.

This type of mechanism gives a Mechanical Engineer an additional capability to manipulate his
machinery, a little more and find at a solution to some of the very critical problems.

In a situation where you need a mechanism which can give you a slow working-stroke and a fast
retracting-stroke you would need this mechanism, known a Quick-Return-Mechanism. An
extension of this 4-Linkage mechanism is used in Shaping Machines.

Material:-

 Wood

 Nut-Bolts

 DC Motor
 Form Board

 Aluminium Strips

Material Description:-

Woods:

Wood is a hard, fibrous structural tissue found in the stems and

roots of trees and other woody plants. It has been used for
thousands of years for both fuel and as a construction material. It is
an organic material, a natural composite of cellulose fibers (which
are strong in tension) embedded in a matrix of lignin which resists
compression. Wood is sometimes defined as only the secondary
xylem in the stems of trees or it is defined more broadly to include
the same type of tissue elsewhere such as in tree roots or in other
plants such as shrubs.[citation needed] In a living tree it performs a
support function, enabling woody plants to grow large or to stand
up by themselves. It also mediates the transfer of water
and nutrients to the leaves and other growing tissues. Wood may
also refer to other plant materials with comparable properties, and to material engineered
from wood, or wood chips or fiber.

Nut Bolts:
A nut is a type of fastener with a threaded hole.
Nuts are almost always used opposite a mating
bolt to fasten a stack of parts together. The two
partners are kept together by a combination of
their threads' friction, a slight stretch of the bolt,
and compression of the parts. In applications
where vibration or rotation may work a nut loose,
various locking mechanisms may be employed:
Adhesives, safety pins or lockwire, nylon inserts,
or slightly oval-shaped threads.

DC Motor:
A DC motor is designed to run on DC electric power. Two examples
of pure DC designs are Michael Faraday's homo-polar motor (which
is uncommon), and the ball bearing motor, which is (so far) a
novelty. By far the most common DC motor types are the brushed
and brushless types, which use internal and external commutation
respectively to create an oscillating AC current from the DC source—
so they are not purely DC machines in a strict sense.

Form Board :
Foam core or Foam board is a very strong,
lightweight, and easily cut material used for
the mounting of photographic prints, as backing
in picture framing, in 3D design and in painting. It
is also in a material category referred to as
"Paper-faced Foam Board". It consists of three
layers — an inner layer of polystyrene foam clad
with outer facing of either a white claycoated
paper or brown kraft paper.

Aluminium Strips:
Aluminium is the most abundant metallic element and constitutes about 8% of the Earth’s
crust. Aluminium salts are widely used in water treatment as coagulants to reduce organic
matter, colour, turbidity and micro organism
levels. Such use may lead to increased
concentrations of aluminium in finished water.
Where residual concentrations are high,
undesirable colour and turbidity may ensue.
Concentrations of aluminium at which such
problems may occur are highly dependent on a
number of water quality parameters and
operational factors at the water treatment
plant. Aluminium intake from foods,
particularly those containing aluminium
compounds used as food additives, represents
the major route of aluminium exposure for the general public. The contribution of drinking-
water to the total oral exposure to aluminium is usually less than 5% of the total intake.
