CRUSHED STONE SAND (‘CS Sand’) – (Called as ‘M Sand’ in Market)

The Government have decided and recommended to use Crushed Stone Sand as
an alternative to the natural river sand. Further the Crushed Stone Sand (CS
Sand) is commercially called in market as ‘M-Sand’.

For the construction purposes, as an alternate to River Sand, the Government


have decided and recommended to use Crushed Stone Sand manufactured by way
of using good quality strong stones crushed with proper machinery and complying
with all the requirements as stipulated by relevant codes of Bureau of Indian
Standards.

The Government issued awareness pamphlets on Crushed Stone Sand for the use
of public and builders stating correct manufacturing process of ‘CS Sand’, simple
site tests to be conducted and Laboratories that conduct the quality tests.
Moreover, short film on ‘CS Sand’ awareness was also released in Theatres by the
Government.

The Public Works Department issued circulars emphasizing importance of the use
of ‘CS Sand’ in detail.

The expert committee consisting of members from Public Works Department,


Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Anna University, Structural Engineering
Research Center (SERC), Indian Builders Association and Chief Engineers of
various other Government Departments is approving the quality of Crushed Stone
Sand manufacturing units after receipt of report of the site inspection and test
results of the Crushed Stone Sand in the Government Certified Laboratories.

So far, quality of Crushed Stone Sand manufacturing units throughout State have
been approved and the details of the manufacturing units have been sent to the
concerned Departments and published in this website.

PWD insisted the condition to the approved ‘CS Sand’ manufacturing units, when
they are selling to the Public, the copy of the PWD Quality approval Certificate and
Sieve Analysis Test report of ‘CS Sand’ have to be enclosed with Lorry Trip Sheet
for the verification of the Public.
