SAFETY PROCEDURE

The temporary brick wall of height mm will be constructed. The wall will act as a confinement of
construction zone of culvert. The brick wall will be white washed so that it is clearly visible in night time
for passing traffic.

The barricading & cautionary board will be placed as per Sketch No. 1 attached here with. Warning sign
board of hazard marker will be placed as caution for traffic.

The material for construction work will be stacked on the stretch so that minimum clearance of 4 mtr is
maintained from existing road.

The total construction zone will be demarcated by four pegs as shown in the Sketch 1 with safety tape.

Typical Sketch No. 1, is attached here with for reference.

Layout & Base preparation Procedure For Culverts/Minor Bridges :

Layout of the culvert will be done as per the approved working drawing
GMR Ambala – Chandigarh Project Quality Manual
Expressway Pvt. Limited

In case of reconstruction the existing culvert will be dismantled completely.

OGL shall be recorded and excavation up to proposed foundation level as per approved drawing will be
taken up, manually or by mechanically.

On reaching the required level of foundation the entire construction width will be removed with any loose
material and bottom surface shall be compacted in such a way that firm ground is available for staring of
work

In case of widening, the existing structure will be exposed and cleared off any loose material

The bottom cleaned surface will be wetted prior to start of foundation PCC activity

Prior to laying of PCC , the layout as per drawing will be again marked on the prepared ground

PROCEDURE FOR CONCRETING WORKS :

The natural origin materials of construction (Aggregate & Sand) and purchased material like
cement, admixture will be tested by site laboratory as per routine frequencies as established in
ITP.

The concrete will be prepared by batching plant / mixer machine. In case the mixer machine is
used the required quantity of material as per the design mix will be established by calibrated
weigh batcher on the site of mixing.
GMR Ambala – Chandigarh Project Quality Manual
Expressway Pvt. Limited
The weigh batcher will be checked prior to concreting, to establish that it is in order and is ready
for concreting.

The pour card will be prepared after ensuring the pre-check for concrete is completed (formats
enclosed ) .The component is ready to receive concrete.

After completing of above said process the concrete will be started. To establish the pour ht level
pegs will be driven .

During the concreting the representative samples of concrete shall be taken and cubes will be
cast. The cubes will be marked with date of pour, grade and culvert identification. The cast cubes
will be cured in curing tank constructed near site of culvert.

After de-moulding the cubes will be shifted to the main project lab. For further Testing.
After the completion of concrete minimum one day is given forn curing

Note: As per case applicable jointing details will be as per drawing no:SC-108 rev-3.

PROCEDURE FOR STONE MASONARY:

Stones to be used will be stacked near site of execution . The stacked stones will be hammer
dressed by skilled mason in such a way that interlocking during the laying is effective and shall
not have any sharp edges.

Stone surface will be wetted before laying of same. Mortar shall be prepared in mixer machine as
per designed proportion. The required material for the mortar will be prepared in the concrete
mixer by measuring boxes as per the design mix. The water shall be mixed in the mixer drum by
measuring jar in the required quantity.

Masonry will be laid . Bigger stones which shall be used for main masonry work will be stacked
separately, and stones for packing shall be stacked separately.
GMR Ambala – Chandigarh Project Quality Manual
Expressway Pvt. Limited

The quoins shall be laid in header and stretches alternatively. Every stone shall be fitted to
adjacent stone so as to form a neat joint.

The mortar joint will not be more than 20mm as per drawing no. SC-108 revision C. The mortar
will be laid uniformaly for throughout thickness.
1: For eccentric widening of existing SM Substructure an expansion gap of 15mm shall be
provided with compressible fibre board.
2: For concentric and monolithic extension, 300 mm width of substructure and foundation
shall be dismantled to ensure proper bond and interlocking
3: In cases where existing slab culvert with stone masonry substructure is extended with RCC
box, the water face of the box culvert shall have a gradual transition in PCC (M-20)
