Explain interaction design and goals of interaction design in detail. Include 2 examples/images of a good and 2 examples of a bad desgin and explain each deisgn in atleast one paragraph. Interaction Design is the design of interactive products and services in which a designer’s focus goes beyond the item in development to include the way users will interact with it.
“The practice of designing interactive digital products, environments,
systems, and services.” Interaction design is also useful when creating physical (non-digital) products, exploring how a user might interact with it. Common topics of interaction design include design, human–computer interaction, and software development.
Goals of interaction design:
Develop usable products. Usability means easy to learn, effective to use and provide an enjoyable experience. Involve users in the design process. Effectiveness: does the interface enable the user to easily accomplish the task for which it is designed? Efficiency: does the interface enable the user to accomplish a task quickly with a minimum number of steps? Safety: does the interface minimise opportunities for users to make errors and, if they do make errors, can they recover easily? Utility: does the interface offer the functionalities that users need to complete a particular task? Learnability: is it easy to learn how to use the product? Memorability: is it easy to remember how to use the product? Bad interface design : The design lacks of contrast When browsing a website, we’d like to see it with a clear and fresh contrast. This can help us better read and understand the info there, and thus knows how to conduct the operation. If there’s no contrast included, both of the color combination and overall display of the website will make us overwhelmed. It’s pretty difficult to read the content from the below website.
The Bad: Lack of Contrast
Bad IA (Information Architect)
Everybody wants to stand out from the crowd and his design work can appeal others’ eyes. However sometimes it just goes to the other side if we overemphasize on the creativity in the design. To keep a good balance in the visual hierarchy can leave a good impression on users, and it can deliver more info to them. The below one can give us a feeling of disorder and confusion more or less. The Bad: Disordered Structure
Good interface design:
MOD’ CRM system The portal utilizes a dark coloring that greatly benefits the interface as well as sets up an enjoyable atmosphere. An ideal contrast between background and foreground naturally outlines the content and highlights the important details. It does not look gloomy; on the contrary, it feels sophisticated, refined and elegant.
Labbler Music Community Interface
The user interface is based on a neutral gray that establishes casual and formal atmosphere. It also skillfully balances all the splashes of bright colors and graphics. The clean monochrome background and plenty of white space set the stage for information quite effectively, presenting it in a pleasant manner. Everything is neat and carefully organized.
