Why The Future Doesn't Need Us

In his article "Why The Future Doesn't Need Us", Bill Joy, an American computer

engineer, argues that "our most powerful 21 st century technologies—robotics, genetic

engineering, and nanotechnology—are threatening to make humans an endangered species."

There are countless ways by which our society is transformed by science and technology

dating back from the past until today. Our history shows how scientific and technological

developments affect our society. This proves how crucial the interactions between science,

technology and society throughout our history.

These scientific and technological developments are beneficial to us for several reasons.

In the field of medicine, technology helps treat more sick people and save lives. This is evident

today where we are unfortunately experiencing a pandemic caused by COVID-19 that is

continuously ending people’s lives around the world. This current situation could have been

much worse without the advancements in the field of medicine.

Technology has also made our means of communication much easier and cheaper. Some

people may say that internet is one of the most important inventions in the 20 th century. The

internet has made communication easier and faster. It has allowed us to stay in contact with

people regardless of time and location. It has accelerated the pace of business and widened the

possibilities within the enterprise space. It has allowed people to find their voice and express

themselves through wide range of social media. The internet has connected us like nothing

before.
