Problème :

 Too close.
 Misorganisation, mis information
 Work based on unseen resources like all the tools
 One day is so closed
 Problème of some “free rider”
 The teacher does neither “things right” nor the “right things”

Things right because not only did he take into account that they only have one day to find all
the tools but he also mis organised and mis informed the student the social about the social
work and tools.
Right things, because he could have make sure that the objective will be reached by any
means. Here the objective is to widen the road not to bring the tools, therefore having this
alternative tools should be more than welcomed since they have to start their social work.
Indeed, the Drillmaster was not effective, he should have use the other tools to get the
works done.

Solution and suggestion :

First of all, having interpersonal relationship with his students was great, but it should have
been stricter and more formal.
Second, the social work is for the next day so they have to make sure that all the resources
will be available on this day in order to avoid making plan based on unseen resources.
In this context, the Drillmaster should have well organised and given more precise
instruction to the students like sharing them into a group and tell each group to bring only
one tool and not any kind of tools. Because even if they brought the tools, it also might be
possible that they all bring the same tool.
He should also have set a rule like no one can borrow others tool once they get into the
villages so all who don’t bring cannot participate in the social work. In this case we can fight
against this problem of “free rider”, characteristic of the student who is not willing to take
any responsibility but just take profit from the others.
The Drillmaster should have also provided the tools itself since maybe one day was not
enough for the student to find the needed tools.
Finally, using the villages and colleges tools was a possible alternative. Therefore, if he really
wants to get the things done, they could have used these tools.
