Q2. What is organic matter richness and explain types of source rock.

The large amount of organic material found in a source of rock. A rock rich in
organic matter which, if heated sufficiently, will generate oil or gas. This is the
percentage or quantity of organic carbon (TOC) in a rock, which includes both
kerogen (insoluble) and bitumen (soluble). It represents the amount of carbon,
oxygen, and hydrogen atoms are available for hydrocarbon generation. This
attribute is a function of conditions prevalent during deposition of source material.
Types of Source rock:

Active Source Rock

Active source rock is a rock that is in the process of generating oil or gas, this
source rock has reached the maturity corresponding to "oil window".

InActive Source Rock

InActive source rock is a sedimentary rock that was once active but has
temporarily stopped generating prior to becoming spent, inactive source rocks are
usually associated with areas where tectonic movements (uplift and erosion) have
occurred, and would generate hydrocarbons again in a favorable geological
environment,

Potential Source Rock

Potential source rock is sedimentary rock that has the capacity to generate oil and
gas in sufficient quantities, however, it has not yet done so because it did not reach
the catagenetic phase, or sufficient thermal maturity.

Spent Oil Source Rock

Spent source rocks are sedimentary rocks that have completed the oil and gas
generation process and they had high potential once, which, however, was spent
over the geologic time.

Q3. Explain your interpretations from above two plots.

Graph one describes that organic matter ranges by the increase in depth form very
good to poor sorting.

Graph two describes the effectiveness of rock ranges in depth only in 1500 km.
More the 1500 km rock is no more effective.
