Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):

✓Remembering ✓Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ✓Creating

Levels of technology Integration:

☐ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

✓Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-driven.
Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning newscast,
posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

To support and enhance the learning experience for all the students in the classroom, I will incorporate the
three UDL principles of Representation, Action and Expression, and Engagement. To address the first principle,
Representation, I will provide students with verbal and written instructions and rubrics to support students
who need multiple means of instruction. To address the second principle, Action and Expression, students will
be using Board Builder through Discovery Education to create a poster while using videos, images, and texts to
further enhance their research topic. Lastly, for engagement, students will have the option to choose which
historical figure from Georgia that they want to do their research on. They will decide how they want to
decorate their poster as well as who they want to work with whether it’s with a partner or by themselves.

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
Lesson idea implementation:

To begin the lesson, I will ask students to take a minute to think about the important figures in American
history such as Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Edison, Martin Luther King Jr., and so on. I will ask
students to explain the things that these significant figures have done for our country and how our country
changed because of them. After discussing this for a few minutes, I will then ask students to think of important
figures of Georgia. I will explain that it is also important to know about our state and how it became the way it
is today as well as the people that changed it. I will then show them this video explaining the important figures
of Georgia. Next, I will have the class read out the standard. I will explain to them how they will address the
standard by completing a project on Board Builder. I will instruct the class by saying that they will choose one
important figure listed in the standard to research and create a project about. They will be given the option to
choose to either work on their own or with a partner.

Once students have decided what they want to do, I will show them how to create a project through
Discovery Education: Board Builder. I will go step-by-step explaining the different tools that are in the Board
Builder and how to use them to enhance their project. Students will be able to attach videos, pictures and
write texts in their project. Students will be able to use BrainPop to research their chosen figure. This project
will take two to three days to complete during Social Studies class. Students will be assessed on their final
project by checking to see if they have incorporated important facts and the impact their chosen historical
figure has placed in Georgia. To extend student learning to a higher level, I will have students present their
finished projects with the class as the rest of their peers take notes and write “grows and glows” to present
feedback to them. To provide feedback to each student or group, I will go through the rubric with them beside
me as we check off each area that they completed and did well on and circle the areas on the rubric that they
missed or needed improvement on. This way I can verbally explain to them what they did well and what they
need to fix so that they can get a better understanding and ask me any questions that they still have.

Reflective Practice:

After designing the lesson idea, I believe the activities I created can make the learning fun for my students
because they are designing their own poster in a creative way. Students are taking charge of their own
learning. To further enhance this lesson, students can Padlet to create an online timeline of their historical
figure’s life. This would give them further insight of who their chosen person was and what they did with their
life.
