“ANGELS on EARTH”

When he wakes up in the morning, he loves to lay down on our long

wooden bench, while everyone in the house is busy doing our own morning

chores.

When I am busy doing my paper works for school, he loves to sit beside

me, watching how I mark my students’ works.

When he eats his snacks, he loves to share his food with me, which he does

not want to share with others.

All the time, he loves to be with me, under any circumstances.

He is my chubby and playful, eight-year old nephew, named Harvey.

I always ask myself how nephews and nieces bring incomparable happiness

in the family. The joy they bring in everyone’s hearts makes us realize that real

happiness is, indeed, priceless.

Nieces and nephews bond the members of the family tighter. When special

occasions came, their presence makes every moment in the family particularly

special and memorable.

Our nieces and nephews also remind us of our own childhood memories

they might not be able to experience anymore. When we were young, we play

outdoors, sometimes even barefooted under the heat of the sun. These young

kids of today have technology to entertain them. They do not even know these

street games we used to play before.

We also get to realize the traits and characteristics that are prominent in

the family through our nieces and nephews. In Harvey’s case, we are always

reminded by our mother’s confidence and articulateness. Our nieces and

nephews will continue to remind us our own family’s uniqueness that each

member embodies throughout lifetime.

While witnessing their growth and maturity, these kids also remind us our

own life’s journeys and experiences. Harvey always reminds me of some of the

experiences I had in childhood during his age. When I was eight years old, I used

to walk from our school to our home. I seldom wear rubber shoes for I and my

classmates are always asked to water the plants and uproot the grasses the grew

around our school garden under the heat of the sun- things that I wish could

never be experienced by any of my own nieces and nephews.

Aside from my parents who really inspired me to strive harder in life, my

nieces and nephews are all God given gifts. Their smile, laughter, tear, and frown

remind me of how life can be both exciting and challenging. Their words and

stories might sound childish and silly, but their effect to an adult like me is

eternal.

If you have nieces and nephews, love them for they are our family’s angels

on earth.
