1. Find the transfer function H(s) and plot the magnitude response for a highpass
Butterworth filter that satisfies αp ≤ 1 dB, αs ≥ 20 dB, ωp ≤ 20 rad/s, and ωs ≥ 10 rad/s.
2. Determine the lowest order N and the cutoff frequency ωc of a lowpass Butterworth
filter that satisfies the following specifications. When possible, choose ωc to provide
sensible passband and stopband buffer zones.
(a) αp ≤ 0.5 dB, αs ≥ 20 dB, ωp ≥ 100 rad/s, and ωs ≤ 200 rad/s.
(b) δp ≤ 0.0115, δs ≤ 10−3, ωp ≥ 1000 rad/s, and ωs ≤ 2000 rad/s.
(c) The gain at 3ωc is required to be no greater than −50 dB.
3. Consider a length-4 unit amplitude pulse x[n] = u[n] − u[n − 4].
(a) Compute and plot the 4-point DFT X[k] of signal x[n].
(b) Use the DFT interpolation formula to compute the DTFT X(Ω) from the DFT X[k]. Plot
X(Ω).
(c) Sample X(Ω) over 0 ≤ Ω < 2π using 10 equally spaced points to create a signal X10[k].
Compute and plot the IDFT of X10[k]. Comment on your results.
