DAILY IMMERSION REPORT IM FORM 3

Series 2016

Student Name John Michael Rosacay

Track/Strand IA-SMAW / TVL

Grade & Section 12-IA SMAW

Instructions:

This should be accomplished at the end of the day. Completion of this form is necessary as a
proof of a daily routine in the work place.

TIME DESCRIPTION

While stick welding may be the most forgiving process on dirty or

1:00-2:00
rusty metal
2:30-3:00 Together may seem like a lot to think about while welding
3:00-3:15 if you focus on welding the sides of the joint,
3:15-4:00 Develop your own style by observing others
4:00-5:00 Start by finding a good body position

Learning for the day:

I learn however, if you are the only conduit bridging an electrical

circuit, you are likely to receive a shock. So yes, getting shocked while
welding is possible. Especially, if you, your gloves, clothes, the floor
or the metals you are attempting to weld, are damp or wet.

TIME DESCRIPTION

8:00-9:00 The SMAW process

9:00-9:30 Do I set up a SMAW welding machine
9:30-9:50 Ground positive or negative on a welder
9:50-10:00 Correct arc length
10:00-10:15 Break Time
10:15-12:00 Can you get shocked when welding
12:00-1:00 Break Time
1:00-4:00 Does my welding rod keep sticking
4:00-5:15 Break time
5:30-6:00 Makes a good weld
6:00-7:00 Travel angle in welding

Learning for the day:

I learn is the Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) is a fusion welding process
that uses a consumable, flux-coated electrode to create an arc between the
electrode and the work piece. Molten metal travels from the electrode via the
electrical arc and is deposited into the work piece.

4:00-5:00 Best hacksaw blade for cutting metal

Learning for the day:

I learn how to operate power hacksaws are used to cut large sizes (sections) of
metals such as steel. ... The heavy 'arm' moves backwards and forwards, cutting
on the backwards stroke. The metal to be cut is held in a machine vice which is
an integral part of the base. Turning the handle tightens or loosens the vice.

Learning for the day:

I learn how to operate lathe machine is a machine tool which is used to remove
metals from a work piece to give a desired shape and size. In other words it is a
machine that is used to hold the work piece to perform various metal removing
operations such as turning, grooving, chamfering, knurling, facing, forming
etc. with the help of tools.

4:00-5:00 Metals Cannot be welded together

Learning for the day:

I learn is Most welding helmets including a window covered with a filter called
a lens shade, through which the welder can see to work. In most helmets, the
window may be made of tinted glass, tinted plastic, or a variable-density filter
made from a pair of polarized lenses.

TIME DESCRIPTION

8:00-9:00 How To Use An Angle Grinder

9:00-9:30 Does grinding a weld weaken it
9:30-9:50 What do you grind metal with
9:50-10:00 Can you cut concrete with an angle grinder
10:00-10:15 Break Time

3:00-3:15 Break time
3:30-4:00 What is grinding in metal work
4:00-5:00 How do you cut metal with a grinder

Learning for the day:

I learn is the weld is not stronger if ground flat. Properly formed butt and fillet
welds can be assumed to have the same strength as the parent metal in tension,
shear and compression. If you grind the weld bead off, you will inevitably
remove some of the parent metal and so make it thinner which will weaken it.
