How do you work under pressure? How do you handle stress?

When under pressure, I take a step back from the situation and try to plan out my strategy for
getting everything done. Through making a thorough plan and keeping organized, I do not allow
myself to get frantic! A lot of times I feel that people get frantic when they don't have a plan and
they start to get overwhelmed by the amount of work they have. In laying everything out in an
organized fashion, I just need to keep working towards goals and I do not have to worry about what I
should be doing next. This also helps me catch potential problems before they can occur.

How likely are you to finish your degree? Why do you think you can?

-Senior Honors Thesis (mini-masters) gave me a taste of what graduate school research would be
like

-Time management skills (president of two orgs, 10 meetings a week and 7 office hours a week, on
top of my honors thesis)

You will be required to take some rigorous courses that may not be of much interest to you. How
do you feel about taking such courses?

-Liberal arts school - already stretched in that way and I enjoyed it

-These courses will help me in my career and to reach my goals so that would generate enough
interest for me!

What could you add to our department?

-Enthusiasm
-Diverse Experiences
-New Ideas
-Teaching Experience

Have you been involved in any research? If so, was your experience a positive one?

-Very positive! Go into my "elevator speeches" about each lab

-Dr. Mark's Ergonomics lab
-Dr. Summerville's Regret and Decision Making Lab
-Dr. Fristad's Child Mood Disorders Lab

What did you like particularly about your undergraduate education? What did you like least?

-Great opportunities in teaching/tutoring and research.

-I loved the classes I had a chance to take and the faculty were incredibly supportive

What major academic problem have you faced and how did you deal with it?

Give me some examples of your doing more than was required in a course.

Give me some examples of your doing more than was required in a course.

In the class (PSY400) that helped me go through the process of my senior thesis, I did more than
what was required by developing two different studies as part of my thesis instead of just one, and
by presenting my poster at two poster sessions when only one was required.
What would you do if (several situations that might occur in graduate school)? For example, if you
committed to work with a professor on some research and after two weeks found it impossible to
continue, how would you handle that?

That would most definitely be a tough situation. But I would start by looking into the research of the
other professors of the institution and try to find another professor to work with.

Or, suppose you had already earned your master's degree and were in a practicum. If someone
offered you a great deal of money to work for them full-time, would you delay pursuing your
doctorate to do so?

No. Because I ultimately want to be a university professor, I would need to complete my education
in order to accomplish that goal.

Is there anything additional we should know about you?

Do you have any ambitions to teach?

Absolutely. My ultimate goal is to work as a professor in a university setting as both a researcher and
a teacher. In college, I gained teaching experience through leading two discussion sections and
found that I really enjoyed it!

How do you feel about giving up a paying job for several years?

I'm fine with it. I care much more about doing something I am passionate about than making a lot of
money.
