Final Exam

Instructions:
1. Write the answer on a blank sheet of paper with your name, and section written on each page.
2. The file extension of the file should be in pdf. If you do not have a scanner at home, you can
download the app CAMSCANNER. File Name Format: Surname_Section
3. The deadline will be on or before May 2, 2020, 8 pm and you can send it through fb messenger or
course message of Blackboard.
4. Write and sign the pledge at the end of your exam. “I hereby attest upon my honor that I did not
give nor receive any help while answering this exam.” I won’t honor your exam if you don’t have a
signed pledge.

I. PART 2 (60%) Assuming no deflection limitation, select the smallest practical size rectangular section as
shown in the figure. The loads given are in addition to the beam weight. Select reinforcement for the positive
and negative moment regions and use the case assigned to you. Design also the shear reinforcement and
consider a spacing for the shear reinf in multiples of 50 mm. Draw the cross section of the beam with complete
details shown. Consider several load cases to account for the extreme condition. (Note: Live load is always
to be applied in the locations and distributions to cause the most severe effects; spans may be fully loaded,
partially loaded, or unloaded, as necessary to obtain maximum effects).
