In English, we sometimes need to express an action that happened in the past, but has a
result now. In other words, here it is not important when something happened. It is
important what the result is now. That’s why we use the Present Perfect Tense.
Examples:
I have lost my keys. (I don’t have them now and can’t open the door)
She hasn’t cleaned the house for a long time. (So the house isn’t clean now)
