Critical Feedback:

Based on group members’ public speaking performance in the prepared speech,

there are some evaluations that can be made of which cover the effectiveness,
strengths, and weaknesses.

Firstly, the strength that can be seen in my members’ speech delivery is their
body language. Body language is the most essential element that every speaker must
possess. Each member used a proper body language in delivering their speech. It can
be seen clearly when they used a good combination of hand gestures, facial
expressions, eye contact, and body postures in their speech delivery. Their body
language also made them to look more confident in delivering the speech. In my point of
view, the audience understand the content a lot better when a proper body language is
used in each of my group members’ speech delivery. For example, one of our group
members’ use facial expression such as conveying the feelings of depth concern for the
audience as she delivering her topic ‘suicide’.

Secondly, the weaknesses that is found within my group members’ speech

delivery is the use of pauses. Pauses in speech can be powerful if it is done correctly.
But, based on my group members’ speech delivery, pauses has been used improperly.
This happens when verbal pauses are used excessively when delivering a speech.
Verbal pauses are the filler words such as um, ah, uh and bridge words like and, but,
and so. These verbal pauses are distracting in communication. They can muddle my
group members’ message to the audience. Verbal pauses are simply noise, not
communication (Pavlina, 2005). Eventually, verbal pauses cause the audience to lose
interest on my group members’ speech.

Moving on, the effectiveness from each of group members’ speech delivery is the
use of visual aids. Using visual aids helps audience to understand my group members’
content much better. For example, the use of interesting powerpoint that includes data
and pictures can engage the audience in their speech delivery. Not only that, by sharing
some of their experience and their own story can helps the audience to be more engage
on their speech. This will eventually makes the speech of our group members’ to be
more effective.
In conclusion, studying other speakers is a critical skill. This ability to analyse a
speech will accelerate the growth of any speaker. By that, a speaker is not a one
journey learning, but a lifelong learning skills that each of us must possess.
