POS Reflection - Term 3 Year 10

Evaluate how your study of this unit shaped your understanding of effective communication?
The study of the unit, ‘face off’ helped me advance my understanding of effective
communication in different ways that I’m more familiar with. I know that everyone has different
opinions and thoughts but it taught me that it’s the way you express it that matters. I also learnt
that a key concept in effective communication is respect, and also that the smallest of things
will make all the difference in how effectively you’re communicating.

Having a different opinion is totally ok, but the way you express it is what determines if it’s ok or
not. Expressing your opinion in the utmost respectful way is essential. Although people have
different views they express things in different ways, people can bring this out into the media
through podcasts trying to get their point across. There are different ways people can express
their opinions, and a very common way is through podcasts and multimedia presentations.
Learning the unit ‘face off’ helped me understand that effective communication comes with
respectful communication.

Another point is that the smallest of things is what makes all the difference in how effectively
you’re communicating. Whether this is your posture, pace, eye contact, language, attention,
showing that you’re listening, listening to answer, these all are put together to impact how
effectively you are communicating. Each of these are essential and even if you have a few
missing, each one helps to make the most out of your communication, and I would say that this
is the most important concept I learnt in this term’s unit in power of speech.

In conclusion, the study unit of ‘face off’ this last term has helped me shape my understanding
of effective communication through the ways I mentioned.

Identify and explain how at least TWO skills you have learned this term have influenced the
successful production of your multimedia presentation.
The production of my multimedia presentation would not have been possible without the two
skills I have learnt this term which are active listening and speaking confidently. These two skills
have been extremely useful to produce my multimedia presentation with Nalan about people
and relationships.

The skill of actively listening that I focused on this term helped me through knowing when to
apply this skill to my communication. Actively listening is basically listening to answer and it is
also about trying to understand others perspectives before responding. Actively listening is
important to build that trust and connection with Nalan as we produced our podcast. The
effect that active listening had on us was that it helped us stay engaged when recording and
thus helps keep the audience engaged at the same time. Basically, active listening was a skill
that I learnt this term that influenced the production of our multimedia presentation.

The second skill I have learnt this term is speaking more confidently. This skill has helped me
make the most out of my podcast for my assessment this term. It helped me express my
opinions and get my ideas across to the audience. Without the confidence I would be
mumbling, giving short answers, not saying what I want to say, and possibly being
misunderstood and misinterpreted. I wouldn’t say I had 100% confidence, but much more than
what I had before this term's content. I can say therefore that the skill of speaking more
confidently was super beneficial and effective in the production of my podcast.

Overall the skills of active listening and speaking more confidently have helped the production
of my multimedia presentation and this unit helped me gain those skills.
