What is Communication
Communication is a common occurance in day to day life and
happens in every setting, company and place , no task or
operation is carried out without communication. This allows a
person to let another person know his thoughts and feelings.
Communication could be verbal or written orelse it could be
through body language and eye contact. Sharing of knowledge
and persuading others to see our point of view is the essence of
communication. Communication skills are vital and makes the
foundation of our interpersonal relationships. In fact, many
things in life is dependent on how well we communicate .
What is Effective Communication

Effective communication highlights the importance that our

productivity and efficiency increases when we listen to a
message and reply after understanding it in the correct manner it
was expected to by the sender. It is a fact that to arise in life,
whether in business or in a company, a person must
communicate well with partners. It is a fact that every human is
different and communicates in a different manner. The
presentation of a message or viewpoint is not all. Of course, it is
important, but equally important is how you adapt according to
the personality of the listeners to convey your point of view.

Everyone has different opinions and looks at the world

differently. This makes effective communication challenging.
However, no matter who you are, it is easy to be an effective
communicator. Some barriers to effective communication such
as assumptions people make about other people and issues,
making patterns of communication and keep reverting to them,
poor attention, and so on.

The content of communication is vital in increasing its efficacy.

You aware how to talk to a child and also address in a different
manner when in front of your boss. Our body language tells a lot
about our intent during communication. For effective
communication to take place, the recipient must get the same
message from the content as well as our body language.

Effective communication ten points

 Clear idea of topics and receiver.
 Intentionn of purpose.
 Realising the environment.
 Prepairing for communication with informing others.
 Think about the content of the message.
 Make the receiver informed about the importance of
communication.
 There must be reply from the receiver.
 To define precisely if communication messages are of
short-run or long-run importance.
 Everything must be suitable with communication.
 Attention.

Verbal Communication
Verbal communication is the most obvious and easly understood
mode, and it is really a impotant tool in communication .
Simply, it means sharing of information between two
individuals using words.

Spoken and Written Communication

While we usually focus on speech when speaking about verbal
communication, it’s necessary to remember that writing is also
verbal communication, as writing uses words too.

Nonverbal Communication
Body language can reinforce your spoken message or it can
contradict it entirely, nodding, facial expressions, leaning toward
the speaker to show interest are modes of nonverbal
communication
Nonverbal communication can make or break your message.
Nonverbal communication reveals a lot about you as a
communicator and how you relate to other people. It pays to be
aware of the elements of your nonverbal communication so you
can maximize the impact of your message

Some types of nonverbal communication and the effects they

can have on the success of your communication:
 Facial expressions: happy, sad, angry, it helps you express
your message. Be careful of your facial expression when
you speak and when you listen, which is when it’s easy to
forget.

 Gestures: When you speak, a gesture can make your

message stronger. Stressing out something you want your
listener to look at more closely is an example of nonverbal
communication that makes your message understood.
Motioning warmly toward a coworker who deserves special
recognition, making a fist to show frustration or anger, such
gestures help further engage your audience when you speak.

Touch: Shaking an audience member’s hand, putting your

hand on his shoulder: these are nonverbal cues that can
affect the success of your message. Touch communicates
affection, but it also communicates power. In fact, when
women touch a listener, it’s often assumed that they’re
being affectionate or conveying empathy, but when a man
touches a listener, it can be taken as a sign of
communicating power or even dominance.

 Eye contact: Making and maintaining eye contact with an

audience when you’re verbally communicating or listening
communicates to the other party that you’re interested and
engaged in the conversation. Good eye contact often
conveys the trait of honesty to the other party.
