Fire Safety Tips for Workplace
Causes of Fire
1. Faulty Electrics at workplace like loose
wires, plugs that are over loaded and old
equipment can cause for a potential fire.
2. Flammable and combustible materials.
3. Human error like accidents such as
knocking liquid onto electrical equipment,
burning food in the kitchen or spilling
flammable or combustible liquids.
4. Smoking in restricted areas
5. Poorly maintained equipment or systems
6. Poor housekeeping and waste removal
Fire Prevention
➢ Keep your work area free of waste
paper, trash and other items that
can easily catch fire. Good
housekeeping habits are an
important part of a safe workplace.
➢ Check on your electrical cords. If a
cord is damaged in any way,
replace it. Try not to lay cords in
places where they can be stepped
on, as this will contribute to
deterioration of the protective
outside coating.
➢ Don't overload your circuits.
➢ Turn off electrical appliances at the
end of each day.
➢ Stack and pile all materials in
orderly and stable piles.
➢ Inspect and maintain firefighting
equipment regularly.
➢ Keep office equipment’s regularly
serviced and repaired.
➢ Make sure hazardous materials &
waste are stored in a designated
container as per MSDS
requirements.

➢ Keep heat producing equipment
away from anything that might burn.
This includes copiers, kettles,
computers, etc.
➢ Check your assembly point, exit
route, fire extinguishers, and fire
alarm work.
➢ Don’t block fire exits, call points or
extinguishers.
➢ Smoke only in designated smoking
areas. (at camp)
➢ Keep non-essential office equipment
or small appliances in kitchen areas
clean and unplugged unless in use.
➢ Make sure to use only approved
containers for the separation and
disposal of combustible refuse and
regularly dispose of combustible
debris and scrap from your work
area.
➢ Inspect vehicle & equipment every
day before use. Report to mechanic
if a leak or problem identified.
➢ Conduct regular inspection of stores
and offices.

In the Event of a Fire

• Leave the building/ workshop/office immediately
• Use the nearest exit
• Walk quickly but don’t run closing doors behind you

• Gather in the Assembly Point and report to the Fire Warden, Security & Safety.
• Do not return until told to do so
