CHAPTER TWO
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

2.0 Introduction

Info-Net.

2.1 Activities undertaken during field attachment

Software installation
The Intern was involved in the installation of software that is, In order to operate with a
computer it has to be with the software to carry out the activity needed, software is
usually carried on devices like a flash, compact disc, outside device. Each type of
software installed has its own use, Microsoft office for typing documents, doing
calculations, preparing presentations that is Microsoft word, excel power point
respectively. Antivirus that prevents the computer from being attacked by the virus which
could destroy files stored on the hard drive of a computer.

Hardware installation and connection

Different times we used to connect hardware in the computer, In order for a computer to
operate hardware device have to be connected together, that is the monitor, key board,
mouse and the system unit where by each is connected to each other with a cable in that
way the computer will accept any command given to it. This is the act of scheduled
check of the computer hard ware or software to ensure it continues to operate properly, it
ensures speed and efficiency of the machine, it also reduces on the cost of replacing it
with other machine in case of damage due to irregular servicing.

Organizing files
With record keeping as one of the basic activities in the accounts Department, I was
involved in organization financial documents like receipts and accountability slips in
different files to keep track and accessibility of records especially during the auditing.
Typing and printing
The Intern typed reports about the different documents like the letters, reports for the
company that I did on a monthly to basis
Computer maintenance
System unit

The Intern opened the system unit, the power wires where disconnected from its ports,
the fun removed under the CPU, the floppy disk drive, Motherboard, CD Rom drive,
memory and expansion slots where all blew using a blower and after each part was taken
to their right place, the cables where then fixed back to their respective ports, The heat
sink was also placed back to its right position that is above the CPU which helps to spray
away the heat produced by the CPU due to over working and then i covered it and took it
to its position, I disconnected the printer from the power socket, opened it to be able dust
the inner parts to enable it perform its duty without hindering.

2.2 Methods used in carrying out the activities

Delegation
Delegation involves giving juniors work to accomplish on behalf of the seniors in an
organization. I was delegated work to accomplish by the immediate supervisor. This
involved typing organizational internal letters like appointment letter for the organization,
getting information from the concerned officer, typing, printing and later putting it on the
notice board.

Supervision
The Intern worked under the supervision of the IT manager whereby I consulted him
before accomplishing the given tasks. For example, how to fill the arrears forms. I later
helped clients on filling these forms for the workers who missed hardship allowances.
The filling of the forms involved the place of work, age, the amount of money for the
missing salary and allowances, position and the terms of employment where appointment
or probation.
Assignments
The Intern worked an extra mile in addition to the daily activities like filling documents.
The field supervisor gave me tasks like writing speeches on how to address the staff
members in the meetings in case of a strike in the organization on poor conditions of
work and how to counsel two employees with disagreements at the place of work. I later
printed the work and the supervisor corrected in order to expose me to the practical world
of work in relation to theoretical form in Business Communication Skills.
CHAPTER THREE
LESSONS, EXPERIENCEAND SKILLS

3.0 Introductions
This chapter involves the lessons, experiences and skills attained during the internship
training

3.1 Lessons learnt

The training at Web Info- Net has taught me many lessons about what is going on in the
working field and some of them include the following;

Time management
The Intern was able to observe timed working hours and days for example from exactly
8:00am to 5:00pm and coming before time and making sure to complete the day’s
activities before taking leave from office since time was one of the most emphasized
items in the organization.

Conflict resolution
The Intern learnt how this was done through interaction and involvement in solving
conflicts of employees in the organization. The Intern also learnt that conflicts are
resolved through effective interpersonal negotiation skills and also involving parties in to
open discussions to reach an agreement.

The Intern learnt how to install and how to use the printer; I also used to install software
whenever the field supervisor told me as well as printing.

3.1 Experience attained

Handling customer
The Intern got experience in handling customers. These were mainly clients and
workmates, who had come to update their laptops,
Filing
The Intern got an experience in filing. This included labeling files with their respective
policy numbers. Filing receipts and stock brought in like the set top boxes, also organized
the files had into their carbines in order from the first one to last for easy searching and
identification of lost files.

Computer knowledge
The Intern gained an experience in computer knowledge; they taught me how to use
software applications at a faster speed than I had before for example Microsoft word.
Microsoft excels among others. This improved on my experience in computer than
before.

Keeping time
Keeping time is another experience the Intern gained. This was achieved mostly under
pressure when there were many clients yet each wanted their documents and purchases
made on time.

Record organization and maintenance

The Intern also got experience in record organizing and keeping. This was due to the fact
that the Intern labeled files and also organized them in the carbines also included
searching for lost files, indicating policy numbers on the files and also information on the
people who purchased their other.

3.3 Skills gained

A skill is a proficiency gained in carrying out a particular business task a technique
learned in the field and these skills include:

Communication skills

The Intern gained a skill on how to communicate with individuals from both within and
outside my department during meetings and interactions at the conferences which was
held every Monday.
Inter-relation skills
The Intern was able to speak freely with an open mind and also expressing myself easily
when speaking and talking to people. The Intern also interacted with fellow internship
students from other departments during and after working hours.
Listening skills
The Intern was able to attain concentration through attending meetings for example
Monday meetings, interaction with the Officer and also contract approval meetings and
being able to sustain long hours of speeches.

Typing Skills
The Intern used Microsoft Word to type and edit documents given to him and also typed
different reports and letters which enabled him to further enhance his typing ability.
CHAPTER FOUR

CHALLENGES, ENJOYMENTS AND DISSAPPOINTMENTS

4.0 Introduction
This chapter entails the challenges, enjoyments and disappointments that were
encountered in the field attachment.

4.1 Challenges during the field attachment

The Intern also faced a challenge of getting used to people I found but later with time I
was fine with them.

4.1.1 Personal challenges

High transport costs

The exercise involved moving along distance from Home to Work place yet I was not
provided with allowances to cater for such expenses from the organization and the school
.It required me to use at least UGX 5000 a day to and from work place including lunch
which was so expensive in Wendegeya. The Intern solved by requesting my mother for
some money to facility me

Hostile clients

Some clients were not so welcoming during field work and so were not willing to co-
operate. This was in form of failure to disclose some information about their businesses
due to fear of being charged highly during the evaluation process of licenses. This was
solved by briefings to me going to the field as a way of preparing them for what is in
field and the kind of people they are going to deal how to handle them in different
situations.
4.1.2 Organizational challenges
Limited resources to use when carrying out duties
This was in form of scholastic materials like note books, pens, and calculators especially
during field work. This was managed by optimizing resources available and avoiding
wastage of resources. I would make requisitions for resources needed they would be
availed by the supervisors.

4.2.1 Enjoyments during the internship

The Intern enjoyed a lot all things at Web Info- Net, one of them was the company of the
workmate because they were so hospital able and they could tell me encouraging stories
about their experience in doing internship

The Intern also enjoyed the atmosphere of the place which was so cool

4.2.2 Disappointments during the internship

Only one thing disappointed me while I was doing my internship, I expected to be getting
same allowances like for transport but I did not which made me so disappointed
CHAPTER FIVE

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

5.0 Introduction
This chapter summarizes the conclusions to the field of attachment and the
recommendations to the organization, university, government and the fellow students

5.1 Conclusion
Conclusively internship was carried out at Web Info- Net under the IT department where
I did activities practically hands on with the help of the IT Manager Mr. Musinguzi
Rogers. From the internship experience I managed to gain a lot of skills, knowledge and
confidence that will help me to develop future progress.

5.2 Recommendations

5.2.1 To Makerere university business school

There should be order when allocating supervisors because at times the activity comes to
an end without being supervised which makes everything hard because we are supposed
to work with our supervisors for effective reports and also have a good relationship with
one another.

5.2.2 To Web Info Net

The Intern recommends the organization to make sure that they do provide stand by
generators to all departments. It ought to be noted that the organization was depending on
one big generator and whenever power would be off, other departments would be cut off
from the supply.
5.2.3 To the students
My fellow students should take this period of training serious and ensure that they
properly cooperate with the trainers to stand higher chances of getting the information
they require from them.

5.2.4 To the government

The government should always put much emphasis on the program for all institutions of
higher learning that undergo the exercise of internship
