Appendix

This section describes certain DotTIFF Controller terms, points to notice, and rules in details.

1 DotTIFF File naming

Apply the file name according to the following content when you identify the color code from the DotTIFF file name. There
is no rule in the way of naming of the file name when the color code is not identified.
With DotTIFF Controller, a plate color code is to be identified from the DotTIFF file name.
For that reason, it is necessary to have the file naming rules on the RIP side that generates DotTIFF files agree with the Plate
color identifier of DotTIFF Controller.
(Plate color identifier refers to character strings to be used for plate color identification.)

DotTIFF File name rule

[Job name (base name)]+[Plate color identifier]+[extension]

Example: ABC_C.TIF
Job name (base name):ABC
Plate color identifier :_C
extension : .TIF

• Plate color identifi er is the character string registered in [Plate Color Identifi cation] setting. For
information about setting, refer to Chapter 2, "4. Bind Setting" section.
• Job name (base name) precedes the plate color identifier in the file name string.
• If a plate color identifier is missing from a file name string, it is considered as a spot color, and the file
name excluding extension will be its job name (base name).
• Based on the registered character strings, the color plate information is extracted from DotTIFF file
names.
• The character string of DotTIFF file name is checked from its end against registered character strings of
color plate information, and when a match is found it is processed as an appointed color plate.
• For cases of unregistered or unidentifiable color, it would be treated either as a spot color or an error
file depending on your setting.
• Illegal characters for Plate color identifier are as follows:
Illegal characters for Windows file and folder names
\ / : , ; * ? “ < > |
Illegal characters for DotTIFF Controller file and folder names
‘ # = + % & ~

2 About Plate Color Identification

Based on the registered character strings, the color code information is extracted from DotTIFF file names. The character
string of DotTIFF file name is checked from its end against registered character strings of Plate Color Name, and when a
match is found it is processed as an appointed color plate code.
For cases of unregistered or unidentifiable color, it would be treated either as a spot color or an error file depending on your
setting.

Illegal characters for Windows file and folder names
\ / : , ; * ? “ < > |
Illegal characters for DotTIFF Controller file and folder names
‘ # = + % & ~

87
Appendix

• If the plate color identifi cation from a DotTIFF fi le name fails, the following actions will be taken
according to the setting of "In case of no match" in the "Plate Color Identification setting" dialog box.
Output as spot color, Without auto-addition : When no match is found, it will be output as spot color.
Code won't be added automatically.
Output as spot color, With auto-addition: When no match is found, it will be output as spot color.
Code will be added automatically.
Not output (Error): When no match is found, it will be processed as an error.
• Character strings of Plate Color Name are not case sensitive.

Appendix

3 About Bind Setting

This is a process to pack a specified number of DotTIFF files of identical resolution and identical number of pixels as a
single job. Depending on the settings, operations will be as follows:
(1)When no checkmark to "Output in Bind"

One DotTIFF will be output as one job. (No binding)

As soon as a DotTIFF file is placed into a Hot Folder, the output process starts.

(2)When both "Output in Bind " and "Allow presence of different file names" checkmarked

A specified number of DotTIFF files of identical resolution and identical number of pixels will be bound as a single job, with no file
names checked.
The operation moves forward after the bind process to the output process under certain conditions:
• When a specified number of DotTIFF files of identical resolution and identical number of pixels have been bound together. (Job
names are ignored.)
• When the next file has not come in within a specified amount of time since the last file, even though the specified number of files
is not reached.(An incomplete set of DotTIFF files will be output.)

• Value that can be set by “Number of Files” : 1-8

• Value that can be set by “Timeout” : 1-3600

89
Appendix

(3)When "Output in Bind " is checkmarked and there is no checkmark to "Allow presence of different file names "

• When a specified number of DotTIFF files of identical resolution and identical number of pixels have been bound together. (Job
names are ignored.)
• When the next file has not come in within a specified amount of time since the last file, even though the specified number of files is
not reached.(An incomplete set of DotTIFF files will be output.)

• Value that can be set by “Number of Files” : 1-8

• Value that can be set by “Timeout” : 1-3600

4 About Priority

Interrupt output can be achieved by setting priorities to output order of DotTIFF files. You can specify priorities in [Hot
Folder], [Batch register] menu, [Re-output] menu, and [Progress] window by the unit of job.
We have 3 levels of priority.
(1) Top : Operation is different depending on the model of the recorder.
• For PT-R8800,PT-R16000,PT-R24000,PT-R32000,PT-R32000Z,PT-R36000,PT-R N1000
The processing of the job of the exposure waiting is suspended, and the Top priority job output
will be executed.
The suspended job transfer will be redone after the interrupt job is transferred.
• For recorders not listed above
Allows the current file transfer to the Recorder to complete, and when that job is done, the new
file will be inserted.
(2)High : Allows the current job transfer to the Recorder to complete, and when that job is done, your file will be
inserted.
(3)Normal : The new job will be added to the end of the list. This is the default setting.
For PT-R8800,PT-R16000,PT-R24000,PT-R32000,PT-R32000Z,PT-R36000 and PT-R N1000 the interrupt timing to
output order for files with priorities.

Job Priority Plate Current Status Top Priority High Priority Normal
Normal Cyan Unload Completed
Normal Magenta Exposure in Process
Job1
Normal Yellow Preloading
Normal Black Transfer Completed
Normal Cyan Transfer Completed To be retransferred
Normal Magenta Transfer Completed To be retransferred
Job2
Normal Yellow Transfer in Process To be retransferred
Normal Black Waiting for Transfer
Normal Cyan Waiting for Transfer
Normal Magenta Waiting for Transfer
Job3
Normal Yellow Waiting for Transfer
Normal Black Waiting for Transfer

91
Appendix

For recorders other than PT-R8800,PT-R16000,PT-R24000,PT-R32000,PT-R32000Z,PT-R36000 and PT-R N1000 the

Normal Cyan Unload Completed
Normal Magenta Unload Completed
Job1
Normal Yellow Transfer /Exposing

Normal Black Waiting for Transfer

If you have specified output instructions in "Hot Folder", "Register Files", and "Re-output menu", and if
jobs of the same priority are registered, then the new job will be inserted after the last of the same priority
jobs.
Example From the state: JOB1 - Top Priority, JOB2 - Top Priority, JOB3 - Normal, JOB - Normal, add JOB5
- Top Priority.
• For changing output order using or button in the [Progress] window, you can switch output order
only among jobs with the same priority. For example, a job defined as normal can be freely switched its
position with others that are also registered as normal, however, it cannot be moved up in front of jobs
that are registered as high priority or top priority.

Job Before Job5 addition After Job5 addition

1 Job1 Top Job1 Top
2 Job2 Top Job2 Top
3 Job3 Normal Job5 Top
4 Job4 Normal Job3 Normal
5 Job4 Normal

• For changing priority in the [Progress] window, use Normal, High Priority, and Top Priority buttons.
Following tables show some examples of order change:
(1)Changing from lower priority to higher priority
Moves to the last position among jobs with changed priority.
EXAMPLE From the state: JOB1 - Top Priority, JOB2 - Top Priority, JOB3 - Normal, JOB4 - Normal,
change JOB4 to Top Priority.

Output order Before change After change

1 JOB1 Top JOB1 Top
2 JOB2 Top JOB2 Top
3 JOB3 Normal JOB4 Top
4 JOB4 Normal JOB3 Normal
