Indian and Chinese troops
have undertaken mutual dis-
engagement in at least three
places in Eastern Ladakh with
People's Liberation Army
(PLA) moving back its per-
sonnel by about 2.5 km ahead
of more military-level talks
between the two countries
soon to peacefully resolve
the ongoing border stand-
off, sources said.
The disengagement came
three days after the Lt Gen-

Former Union minister and
journalist Ajay Singh passed
away early today in a city
hospital. He was 69.
An alumnus of Modern
School and St. Stephen’s Col-
lege, Mr Singh began his
career in journalism with the
Fiji Times and then worked
for Surya, India Today and
Morning Echo, a tabloid news-
paper of the Hindustan Times
group.
He contributed several
articles and reviews to The
Statesman.
In 1980, he took over as
Managing Trustee of the Kisan
Trust and published two
newspapers, Real India and

Union Territories to
ensure the return of migrants
to their home states within 15
days, provide them employ-
ment and also drop all cases
registered against migrants for
allegedly violated coronavirus.
The top court directed all
states to submit affidavits on
schemes for migrants and
their job creation by July 8 when
it will take up the issue next.
The apex court, which was
dealing with the plea on prob-
lems and miseries of migrant
workers, also asked authori-
ties to consider withdrawal of
criminal cases lodged against
them for violating social dis-
tancing norms.
It also directed the author-
ities to set up help desk for
those workers who wanted to
come back to their old places
of work. The apex court, in the
38-page order, said the Cen-
tral Government may give
details of all schemes which
can be availed by migrant
workers who have returned to
their native places.
All States and Union Ter-
ritories shall also give details
of all schemes which are cur-
rent in the state, benefit of
which can be taken by the
migrant labourers including
different schemes for pro-
viding employment, it said.

Sympathising with migrant
workers who endured days of
hardship to return home amid
the lockdown, Bihar Deputy
chief minister Sushil Kumar
Modi said he has urged the
Centre to replace the four-
decade-old interstate law
with a new one to ensure
their social security.
The senior BJP leader also
said that the troubles of the
hapless workers grew mani-
fold, in the midst of the Covid-
19 crisis, as their employers
did not implement the pro-
visions of the existing Inter
State Migrant Labour Act,
1979.
The Act, moreover, covers
only labourers hired by reg-
istered contractors, leaving out
a vast majority recruited
through agents, the deputy
chief minister said.
The legislation was enact-
troops from the Galwan val-
ley, PP-15 and Hot Springs in
Eastern Ladakh area by 2-2.5
km. The Indian side respond-
ed by withdrawing its troops
from these areas.
But the Chinese military
build-up in rear areas was
continuing. Now, both sides
will hold talks probably later
this week at various points of
confrontation. The talks could
be at the Brigadier-level or the
Maj Gen level after mutual con-
sultations, sources added. A

CPI: No relief for
