Artifact Description: Reflection on Project of My Classroom

What you learned/overcame:

I used Power Point (PPT) in this project. Lines and all kinds of shapes are the major

features used. I learned the following as my new skills.

(1) I continue to find that “Group” and “Ungroup”, “Copy” and “Paste” are highly useful. I

can’t possibly finish the project without these two pairs of functions.

(2) In this project, I used the strategy of “growth”. It can be explained as follows. I drew one

pair of student desk and chair only. Then I group it so that every lines and shapes in the

group of the desk and the chair is fixed inside and does not fall apart when I move the group.

Then I duplicate it to get another five identical pairs of desks and chairs and place them in a

row. At this time, I grouped the six pairs of desks and chairs in a row to a group. And I

duplicated the entire row to get my second, third, fourth and fifth rows.

(3) It was amazing that the PPT program showed me the equal distances with red dotted lines

between the rows whenever I place a new row. This greatly enhanced the even distribution,

or symmetricity of the classroom.

(4) I learned to begin with the small details and add the large outlines at last with PPR. I

experimented to draw the outline of classroom first, but the entire four walls moved around

each time when I tried to manipulate with the student desk or chair. I had to delete the

classroom outline and focus on the small elements instead, desks and chairs. Once I finished

drawing the details of the classroom, I added the outline of the classroom.

(5) Finally, I labeled each desk with my own students’ names, instead of my own classmates.

I can use this for my new semester teaching possibly. I hope this is fine. It is also worth to

mention that my school is an enclosed old Las Vegas school structure. The classroom is an

irregular shape without windows.

National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS)•S Addressed:

http://www.iste.org/standards (Links to an external site.)

This project if adopted by students meet the following standards of NETS:

1a. Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, demonstrate the

ability to choose, use and troubleshoot current technologies and are able to transfer their

knowledge to explore emerging technologies.

5. Students develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems in ways

that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions.

5a. Students formulate problem definitions suited for technology-assisted methods such as

data analysis, abstract models and algorithmic thinking in exploring and finding solutions.

5d. Students understand how automation works and use algorithmic thinking to develop a

sequence of steps to create and test automated solutions.

Application of Skills Learned for the Future:

This project can be used to train students on how to draw with MS Power Point. It can

be used to study Technology, Math and Language Art. In this project, students can learn

how to build algorithm, from one point, to a row then to a matrix. The hierarchical order is an

important concept in computer programming, and many other subject. It also teaches students

geometric distribution and measurement.

This project fits the type of learners who learn through logical-mathematical analysis.

It provides a learning opportunity for those who learn through thinking.

I could use the drawing teaching in my classroom as a class activity. Students can

learn logic, math and technology. I can also require students to exchange their drawing

results to discuss about the projects. This enhances the learning through linguistic activities.

In addition to classrooms, I could ask students to draw a garden, night sky with

constellations, a map of a place, distribution of sprinklers in a crop field, or distribution of

mobile transmission towers. These all provide multiple styles of learning, and multiple

intelligence training.
