Using Facebook to Improve EFL Students’ Communicative Ability

In language learning, especially in EFL classroom, students are generally expected to

master the concept of the language studied. In other word, language is regarded as knowledge.
Sometimes, many people tend to shut out the function of language learning as a tool to improve
communicative ability. In this ironic, because the purpose of ideally language learning is to
enable the students in using it for communication. Facing this fact, it is important for the teachers
to engage any media to attract students’ attention in using the language studied as medium
language for their daily interaction.
Technology can be chosen as a media to engage communicative atmosphere in language
learning. Actually, there are many parts of technology can be made use. But, here, we will only
focus on Facebook. Here are the reasons why Facebook used as a media for communicative
language learning:
· ​A fact that student always access Facebook on their time.
· ​Facebook as social media connecting people around the world. Then, it can be used by
student to make a chat with other people from abroad. This situation will help them to
use their language communicatively and authentically.
· F​acebook allowed its user to do public chatting. So, it is beneficial for the student to do
online discussion.
· ​And many more reason.
