1. Hiker walks 25 km south-east then 40km at 60 degree North of East. Find the magnitude and
direction of the resultant displacement.

[find both the magnitude and direction.]
3.Can the sum of the magnitudes of two vectors ever be equal to the magnitude of the sum of
the same two vectors? If no, why not? If yes, when?

4. Vector A, which is directed along an x axis, is to be added to vector B, which has a magnitude
of 7.0 m. The sum is a third vector that is directed along the y axis, with a magnitude that is 3.0
times that of A. What is that magnitude of A? [use degree as unit of angle]
5.
Two beetles run across fiat sand, starting at the same point. Beetle 1 runs 0.50 m due east, then
0.80 m at 30° north of due east. Beetle 2 also makes two runs; the first is 1.6 m at 40° east of
due north. What must be (a) the magnitude and (b) the direction of its second run if it is to end
up at the new location of beetle 1?

Hint: Equilibrium means resultant force zero. Force is a vector.

8.

Hint: velocity in still water refers to the velocity without the effect of the flow of water, resultant
velocity is the final velocity. Velocity in still water can be considered as velocity independent of water.

We tried to include some interesting problems related to vectors so that you can apply whatever you
have learned so far about vectors. As you move forward you will come across vectors in different study
of physics. Best of luck and keep loving physics.
