FARM PONDS
• Small storage structures for collecting and storing run-off water.
• Types according to construction
a) Excavated ponds for flat topography
b) Embankment ponds for hilly and uneven conditions
c) Excavated-cum- embankment ponds
TYPES OF EXCAVATED FARM PONDS
• Square
• Rectangular
• Circular: highest storage capacity
CHECKDAMS
• Permanent engineering structures constructed in unstable gullies
• Helps in recharging downstream wells

PERCOLATION PONDS: Constructed across a natural water course

having permeable formations to impound from streams for a longer
time
Effective in recharging ground water
SELECTION OF CATCHMENT AREA
• Done as per the potentiality for yielding sizeable quantity of run-off
• If area is too large: silling occurs
• If area is too small: may not yield enough water in pond
