1- Primers :A special type of paint applied to the steel surface directly after scaling
and cleaning.
2- Finishing coats:The top coat has many colors depending on these used by the
shipping company.
3- Funnel paints: It is heat-resisting paint with many colors required by the
shipping company.
4- Silvering: It is a heat-resistant paint for radiators, exhaust pipes, pipes,
ventilators
5- Bitomastic paints: Used where high protection against water and anti- static
electricity needed,Such as bilges, ballast tanks, chain lockers
6- Deck Paints: It is a special paint to resist the footsteps when walking on it.
7- Topside Paint: It is the paint covering the top side of the hull, which is subject to
air, rain and sea splashing. It is supplied in company colors.
8- Boot Topping Paints: It is special paint covering the submerged under water area
When the vessel is loaded and it is subject to air when the vessel is discharged.
9- Anti-Corrosive Paint: apply directly to the steel in the vessel's bottom.
10-Anti-Fouling Paint: It apply on top of the anti corrosive paint to kill weeds and
marine growth in Dry dock.
11-Pigments is the basic component giving the color of paint and the protective
quality.
12- Pigments is in the form of fine powder or paste, such as white lead – red lead .
13- Binders Holds the pigment particles together and gives the paint sticky
quality.

14- The Driers assist the paint film to dry more quickly.
15- All decks & holds should be swept with brooms, stains collected and
disposed
According to MARPOL

Cleaning Bilges:
1- Lift off the plate.
2- Clean out all the bilge and the strum box.
3- Flush out with some water.
4- Check the suction of the strum box before closing the bilge.
When it dries, paint with bitomastic paint.
Cleaning Double-Bottom tanks:

1- Make sure that the tank is empty.


2- Open both double-bottom manholes.
3- The tank must be ventilated thoroughly to ensure that there is fresh air before
men enter the tank.
4- Portable DC lights should be provided at double-bottom tanks.
5- After cleaning. Chipping and removal of residues, double-bottom tanks are painted
with bitomastic paint.

THE CARE OF ROPES

1)Ropes must be stowed and protected from sunlight and heat.


2)After use – Rope should be cleaned with fresh water.
3)Ropes must be dry before stowed.
4)Kinks cause permanent injury to rope therefore splices are better.
5)Ropes should never subjected to bad nips.
