PREVIOUS ACTION IN TERMINATED COURSE BEFORE TERMINATION

Please provide specific details of the steps you took to improve your academic performance after being placed on conditional
status throughout your terminated course. Please provide evidence of the steps taken (e.g. attend workshops, counselling, other
studies etc.)

I attended counseling right before Semester 2 started in 2019 but then failed to attend sessions
later on due to the events that came about right after my first session.

PERSONAL STATEMENT (CONTINUED ON PAGE 2)

Your personal statement must outline: the details of what went wrong with your previous studies, how it affected you and your
studies, what action you have now taken, and what plans you have made to improve the situation. Appropriate documentation
that supports your statement should be included (e.g. medical certificate, letter of support from Counselling etc.)

2019 started off extremely difficult for me. It was mentally draining having to deal with a lot of anxieties socially in the
classroom environment. I was excluded in class and faced the same social groups in my classes. Group projects and
work were extremely difficult as most of my input was not taken into consideration. I tried working with relevant
lecturers for my subjects but had no choice but to go forward in situations where I felt like I was putting in work that
was not representative of my own. This was very demoralizing for me and carried on for the next semester as well.

PERSONAL STATEMENT - CONTINUED

Semester 2 was extremely difficult. I thought the semester holidays would ease new beginnings and a fresh start to fix
my record from semester 1 but I didnt get off to a good start. By this time I came back to Miri and my friends invited me
to a small gathering to celebrate someones birthday party. I didnt stay long and went back home as it was mostly
strangers at the event. I woke up the next day with strangers banging on my door demanding to get inside my house.
It was extremely frightening and had me quite shaken. I was being accused of stealing a large sum of money at this
party by these strangers and told that I would be reported to the police and that supposidely there were witnesses who
would corroborate this allegation. I was quite shaken and called the Maldivian embassy regarding the matter who
werent as helpful. It was extremely traumatic and caused me to miss out on two weeks on classes. By that time
groups have had been formed up and I was much too far behind. I boarded up myself and was frankly quite
demoralized in carrying forward for the year. I had missed out on assignments and felt there was no way I could catch
myself up. I had no friends who were willing to help and I found out much later on that the strangers who showed up at
my doorstep that triggered these events had done so to other people who attended the gathering mentioned before.

I started 2020 wanting to get back on track and wanting to seek counseling services to make sure I stayed on track. I
wont be in the same classes as the students Ive been with throughout my course so I feel like Id have a fresh start. I
hope you will take into consideration my circumstances and give me one more chance in finishing up this course. Im in
my final year and I dont want to let one horrible year leave another painful mark in my academic life.
