PREPARATION OF ACETANILIDE USING GREEN TECHNIQUE
Theory:
Acetanilide is an odourless solid chemical of leaf or flake-like appearance. It
is also known as N-phenylacetamide, acetanil, or acetanilid, and was
formerly known by the trade name Antifebrin. It is soluble in hot water and
ether. On boiling with HCl yields acetic acid. It radially reacts Br 2 in acetic
acid yields 4– bromo derivative, m.p. 170o with HNO3 and H2SO4 gives p –
nitro-acetanilide m.p. 210 o.
